Is anyone else experiencing this graphical glitch?
When I got shot by the needler, or the sentinels laser, my screen goes totally black. Can't see a thing. Makes alot of the levels hectic to say the least

Re: Is anyone else experiencing this graphical glitch?
Mt graphics settings are all set to low except for textures which is set to medium. Also, whenever i get actiave camouflage or a health pack my screen goes black.

Re: Is anyone else experiencing this graphical glitch?
my buddy has the same problem on his powerbook (with some ati 32mb card, i think), and i had that problem with my dad's powerbook, athough not with my 733 tower (geforce 4 ti). i think it's something to do with the video card, not the texture settings. and it makes certain things in multiplay and singleplay impossible, even on easy. being unable to see sucks.
edit: oh yeah, what kind of computer/graphics card are you two using?

ok, that's kinda confusing... i think the problem you have is different from the other problem, unless you're also having the sreen black happen with needler shots or plasma turret fire, or when picking up health. i don't know why yours does, but i suspect Booksley has the problem because of the graphics card. who knows, perhaps yours is the same problem... but the 9000 is a 64 mb card, vs. the 32 mb card in my friend's (and dad's) laptop. a little tinkering may be in order.

Re: Is anyone else experiencing this graphical glitch?
It's having the opposite effect it should. On the top rendering level, those actions (e.g. picking up health pack) make the screen saturate white, then fade to normal.
Fiddle a bit, perhaps start with Lens Flare settings.

Re: Is anyone else experiencing this graphical glitch?
Normally when you pick up the active camoflauge you should get a blue negative effect (like thermal goggles) for your view, but it should only last temporarily. Also, when you get hit while you're in a vehicle your screen should flash white. My guess is that some graphics cards or settings are simply screwing this special effect up. You should probably report the bug to Macsoft so they can either fix it or give you the option to turn screen flashes off. If it comes to turning those screen flashes off (if it's possible), at least you'll still have the red arrow indicators to indicate where the damage is coming from.

excellent, my theory holds so far. and really, i don't think it has a lot to do with the fact that it's a powerbook, it's just that particular card. updating the drivers (from the halo cd and via 10.3) has had no effect on the problem, and it occurs in 10.2.8 as well.

It also does that on my Dad's G4, which uses a 32MB PCI Radeon 7000.

Re: Is anyone else experiencing this graphical glitch?
okay...so 32 mb ATI cards seem to be the common denominator...i'm not sure if it's a Radeon 7000, because apple's computer spec's site isn't working for me for some reason.

Try looking here.
There was a bug on PC Halo in one of the older updates that turned the sniper scope black whenever you were zoomed and turned on the nightvision thingy.
Could they be related?

Re: Is anyone else experiencing this graphical glitch?
yeah, i'm thinking those affected might want to send emails to macsoft support and tell them about it, also suggest that it might be linked to the 32 mb graphics card.
hold on... i just checked the requirements and read the fine print. while it does say "32mb AGP Video Card" it also specifies ATI 7500 or better meaning if the card in the powerbook is an ATI 7000, you're s.o.o.l.
you might send that support email to them anyway, see if there's something you can do to fix that. but it is officially an unsupported video card.

Re: Is anyone else experiencing this graphical glitch?
Spam doesn't have anything to do with it, but it isn't supported, no. Originally, tho, it was on the Macsoft site as the min requirement. Eventually someone must've noticed... the 7000 lacks hardware T&L. It might run the lowest geometry-related detail levels, but in that case it should have better than the minimum CPU.
Hmm... I'm remembering now that the PC FF pipeline has triangle-based, rather than pixel-based fog... wonder if this is a fogging effect gone wrong. Tris have vertexes.
7000-users with problems- do you have vertex shaders On? (7000s don't have vertex shaders).

the spam was in reference to their emails to macsoft support, but whatev. no big deal... i'll take a look at that later today when i get ahold of my dad's computer (it has the same problem and hardware). i'll post again if/when anything happens

Re: Is anyone else experiencing this graphical glitch?
I'm using a Radeon 9800 and my screen goes black whenever I pick up Active Camo. I don't think it has anything to do with the card, I think it has something to do with how high (or low) you have your video settings.

well, i'd have to disagree; i've done some fairly extensive testing on my system here, the third post down. i've had 12 different combinations of graphical settings and never encountered this problem... perhaps it's a problem that has to do with ATI cards only, since my computer is using an nvidia card...

Re: Is anyone else experiencing this graphical glitch?
Driver issues are always possible- a certain key caused night vision to go black instead of lighter for me a couple of months/ driver releases back.
A couple of entries on the MacSoft Halo Support page hint at possibilities...
When I run Halo on my Mac with ATI video in OS X 10.2.8 I get looping, jerky audio and a black screen.
This is caused by an issue with the ATI video drivers in 10.2.8. Simply install the updated ATI driver located in the Extras folder on your Halo CD and restart your Mac.
...
After installing Halo, I double click the game icon, the screen goes black and then returns to the desktop after a second. What's up?
The shaders folder is missing files or is missing altogether. To fix this, copy the shaders folder from the CD into the Halo folder on your hard drive. If prompted that the shaders folder already exists, click "Replace."
...
The background in the game looks distorted on my eMac with ATI video.
A driver update is coming from ATI that will resolve the issue.
(And these unconnected but cute ones...)
[color=green]My gamepad doesn't work with Halo. Why?
We did not implement gamepad support for the initial release version of Halo. However, we are looking into adding support for some game controllers in the future.

Re: Is anyone else experiencing this graphical glitch?
I fixed the active camouflage blinding me problem. I increased the model detail from low to medium, and now i gt the normal active camouflage effect. I'll try and install the updated ATI drivers/set model detail to high and see if that prevents the health pack from blacking out on me,
