Disappearing Network Servers
My brother recently got a dual processor PowerMac G5 and he wanted to plug it into his roommates' network of Windows computers so that they could all listen to a public/shared music folder. When he plugged it into the network, his internet automatically hooked up, just like it should, but when he tries to connect to one of the other computers on the network (going into "Browse" in the Finder "Go" menu, where you can see all of the available servers), it doesn't work quite right. He clicks on his roommate's Windows XP computer alias/icon in the folder and tries to connect, but then the icon mysteriously disappears... and reappears... and disappears.... All the while displaying dialogues about not being able to see or connect to the server. Are we missing some magic step in connecting with Windows computers? What's up with this?

Re: Disappearing Network Servers
open a regulat finder window, then clcik on network, then see how things go.
also make sure your updated to 10.3.2
do a pram reset too.
make sure your workgroup and his are trhe same on all the machines and on the mac, use the directory acces app, login to it, then double click SMB, then set the workgroup.
Please Don't make my brain hurt, ask logical, thought out, and well worded questions.

Re: Disappearing Network Servers
Thanks for the help, electronic. Isn't all this stuff supposed to happen magicly? I was hoping this wouldn't get too deep into the technical realm of things... though I don't know if that's deep. One thing I've had virtually zero experience with is networking, because the only things I have ever tried networking together were macs... and that was in the appletalk and rendezvous days. Thanks again,
