The Sims on OS X?

Can someone please answer the following questions for me regarding The Sims on the Mac:

1.  First of all, is the game designed for OS X or is it a Classic game?

And since you're here:

2.  Are gameplay, commands, speed, etc. the same as on the PC version?

3.  Do cheats for money, etc. that work on the PC version work on the Mac version?

4.  Can new items that have been created by users, that I download off the Internet (like new furniture, etc.) that worked in my PC version work in the Mac version?  Do I need to do some kind of conversion on them?

5.  Are there any recommended item generators, character editors, or anything like that available to run under OS X?

Thanks for answering my stupid questions.  Truth be told, it's my wife that wants to buy the game because her sister plays the PC version all day long, but my wife isn't interested unless she can do the same things as her sister and share new items, etc.

Re: The Sims on OS X?

1.  It was written pre-OSX so 'Classic' would be the answer.  Update to OS X by going to Aspyr's website.

2.  I believe they are.

3.  I believe they do.

4.  I've never had a probelm with objects, but you may want to run skins through a program like 'SkinShrinker' first.  It can be found at the VersionTracker website.

5.  Not that I'm aware of, though I have taken some of the .BMP files and modified them in Photoshop.  Those worked fine.

Re: The Sims on OS X?

For the first question only:

If you purchase it from stores that have a sufficient turn-over, such as an Apple Store, from where I purchased The Sims from on 31-Dec-02, the installation disk will include the "classic installer" which is required first, and a "carbon installer", which would be required second for you as you plan to run it in OS X.

Depending on your machine/ram/OS/etc/, it should run great.

AFAIK, the cheats are the same.

Good Luck.

Re: The Sims on OS X?

Thanks everyone!

By the way, does anyone know if there is an editor out that that will let you edit the money of a family directly--that is, AFTER the family is created, but BEFORE they buy their starting house?

I saw one on the PC (can't remember what it was called) and it worked great.  I think it was a "trainer" or something--you pressed certain keys right after creating the family and it edited their money instantly.  We know the "rosebud" cheat, but we would like to have the money BEFORE buying the first house...

Anyway, if there is an editor or "trainer" or something like that available for the Mac version, could someone please post...

btw:  We went and bought The Sims, Livin' Large, and Hot Date this evening.  It rocks.

Thanks.

Re: The Sims on OS X?

We know the "rosebud" cheat, but we would like to have the money BEFORE buying the first house...

As soon as my new family appears, I pause it.  Then hit, what is it, control + c?  to bring up the text box.  Type "rosebud", hit return, then open the text box again, but this time type "!;", hit Apple + A to select all, Apple + C to copy it and then Apple + V to paste it until it fills the text box, then copy the whole thing again.  This will give you like, 32000 bucks.  Keep doing it until you have as much money as you want.  If you don't want to build a house, just evict the family and buy the pre-built house you want.

Sorry if I over-simplified this, I'm never sure of the experience level of who I'm talking to unless it's obvious.

There is no "Trainer" for tha Mac that I know of.

Blaze:

For me, it seems to only work AFTER they buy their first house. I'll have to try again but this time "pause" the game first.  In the past, I've just opened the cheat box without pausing first.

Yeah, you're going to have to buy a cheap lot with no house, then cheat, then evict them so you can go buy a real house.

Re: The Sims on OS X?

if you go to the download section on apple.com there are OSX updates for each edition of the sims

I believe so

Shift, option, apple and C held down opens a dialouge box and type in rosebud for $1000, cant remember others

Search for a converter, it works for me, there are even some mac only sites with downloads

Search and you will be rewarded

Good-luck!

Re: The Sims on OS X?

On my 466 Mhz Clamshell, The Sims, Livin' Large, and House Party run fine.  Hot Date runs fine until I go downtown, then it really slows down, but when I go back home everything runs fine again.[/i]
