Segregation!
Stealing the term from Gipetto's post. If you're at all interested in having the Print & Design forum separate from the Video & Audio forum, here's the place to speak up. A simple vote will do, no need to give your job history, life story, pets names, etc.

Just watch yourself or I'll have to use the experience I gained from growing up overseas and my Bachelor's degree in Photography to devise a way to give my precious Pug Bobo rabies and set him loose in your office!

Re: Segregation!
I just thought I'd leave a note in case you two were wondering who the third guy was that also wanted a split.
I guess the other regular print guy found a forum elsewhere.
And to think, if it weren't for us 2D folk, the Mac would have gone the way of the Amiga a long time ago. :sigh:

Re: Segregation!
separate, yes. I liked when I didn't have to wade through all the video related posts. there's nothing wrong with video, it's just easier on us all, no?

Re: Segregation!
the pole is split 50/50 as of right now. I think a split means a split is in order. Even though there is only 10 people with an opinion.

Re: Segregation!
Regardless of the fact that we have two totally different industries here, it would be better, in my opinion, to split the forum and name them appropriately. If you're required to read the subheading to decipher what "The Pro Shop" means, then the title is just being fancy, and not serving its purpose. Same with the title "Behind the Screens," but that's another story.
"The Pro Shop" also suggests that this forum is only for "pros," which isn't really (and shouldn't be) the case. I think the original argument was, this forum was to distinguish itself from the iApps, which are suggested as being "non-pro" apps. If there was a forum dedicated to the subject of A/V and Multimedia (iffy on the 'multimedia', since the term is really a buzzword during the 90's), people who use iMovie and Final Cut Pro (and Premiere, DVD Studio Pro, etc.) should be able to share their ideas, Q&A, woes in the same forum.
Granted, no thread is going to be locked down because someone mentions "iMovie" in the Pro Shop, but if there is a forum for A/V & MM, the forum visitor understands that, "oh, this is where I can talk about video."
...
and, yeah, video producers aren't that interested in attending Seybold and DTP pros wouldn't get a whole lot of mileage at DV Expo.

Re: Segregation!
I think Droo raises a good point.
A general Video and a General Print forum setup could help introduce the amateurs to the pros.
We, as pros, have a lot to offer each other, but we can help the amateurs a lot too. I for one can say that I've never gone into the iApps forum, so anything that I know doesn't get shared to those who might need it in there. I like helping out when I can, but think having a dedicated print stomping ground and a dedicated video stomping ground can be a good thing.
And maybe by joining the three forums, more traffic will be generated in the two separte forums. Moderation shouldn't be too tough, we all behave ourselves, mostly
I don't think I explained myself very well here so hopefully somebody can make sense of that.

Re: Segregation!
hear hear!
There's an iApps forum? I never noticed, and agree that it ought not be there. I think it's better to sort by genre. I'll assume that a Final Cut Pro pro could help someone with iMovie, at least in concept, just as I could help someone in Photoshop Elements in concept.
I don't even own a video camera, much less edit DV. In fact, I feel a closer bond to web design than to video editing. Sure, we both probably use Photoshop, but I think that's about it.
When you group the video jockeys and print jockeys together, there is an odd mixture of threads -- and both appear polluted. As it turns out, there is much more video information than print. So most of the threads are about stuff I don't know about, and don't have a practical use for. That causes people like me to lose interest in the Proshop altogether. I used to check Design & Publishing at least once a day, and at the infopop ProShop, I stopped checking entirely. The forum just wasn't a place for print-minded users to communicate ideas anymore, and it suffered as both a learning tool and a helping community.
Granted, there wasn't a lot of traffic in D&P, but it was at least an undiluted resource for people looking for print information. Imagine being a new user and going through the Proshop looking for Quark XPress tips or user experiences with InDesign or XPress. They'd look at page one, see a dozen threads about Reason and go elsewhere. It's no different for experienced users. In fact, I don't even know what the heck all the clans are and I've been here for 2 years! I think they play UT, but I don't know what a clan is, why there are 8 of them, and what the difference is.
So there's my argument. Please consider a new print forum for us 2D on paper types.

Re: Segregation!
Well if Droo backs me up, I'll harrass the other mods/admins about it again. It's not up to me, I'm just here to make sure you all play nice.
Not that that's needed.

Re: Segregation!
Split em! It'll make it easier to sort through and figure out who is in the know and who is full of blow. Then if I want to ask for help, comment, or be a neusence (How do you spell that?), I can do it without fear of sounding like a complete idiot, like I am right now
