where's my appletalk?
Ok, I've enabled appletalk in the network preferences, now where do I browse/access my appletalk computers? They don't seem to show up under the normal network panel when I click on the HD icon.

Re: where's my appletalk?
Which version of OSX?
In the system preferences - the computer that you want to connect to must have file sharing turned on. Appletalk is the protocol, file sharing lets you connect.
In 10.3: if other computers have File Sharing turned on, they will show up in the network tab.
In 10.2: the network tab does not work as expected. Use the "connect to server" from the Go menu to see your shared network computers. It'll take a second to survey your network.

Re: where's my appletalk?
Sorry, it's 10.3.
The appletalk computer isn't showing up in the network pane (where the rest of the windows show up)

Re: where's my appletalk?
I went to directory access and made sure Appletalk was checked. The Appletalk computer flashed for a second, then dissapeared from the network browser.

Re: where's my appletalk?
I seemed to have gotten it working by manually setting the OSX computer as node 1 network 1.
Now all my other shares (PC) are gone!

How is your network set up?
I've heard that some routers have AppleTalk issues.
Also, if all the machines you are connecting to are using OSX, you shouldn't need Appletalk to connect to them. You can connect over TCP/IP instead.

Re: where's my appletalk?
The setup worked fine before the upgrade to 10.3. I'm using a compusa generic router, the 5400 is off a linksys switch which is attatched to that router. The G4 is directly connected to the router.
Nothing has changed except OSX. All the computers use DHCP assigned IP's, but the IP's are static based on MAC address...
Like I said, Appletalk seems fine now, but everything else is gone!
