Re: HP iPod
Update from MacMinute:
Update: Apple will manufacture the device, which will not have the iPod name, but will have the same design and features as 3G iPods, Phil Schiller, senior VP at Apple, said in an interview with CNET News.com. He also said the HP music player will come in "HP Blue." "The way we look at it, HP will be reselling an iPod device," said Schiller. He also noted that the device will display the Apple logo at start-up and will work with all of the accessories made for 3G iPods. The new iPod mini models will not be part of the HP deal.
So it should work with Macs. Now let's see about that price point.

Re: HP iPod
Here's hoping that HP also releases a low end hPod (somewhat like the mini-iPod we were all hoping for before the keynote
) that uses Apple technology, is cheap, and is compatible with both Mac and Windows.

I'd say this bring it full circle.
I seem to remember having an HP printer with an Apple Logo on it from only like 6 years ago...

Yes, I do believe so.
I know Apple's StyleWriters were made by Canon.

Re: HP iPod
This is a good thing. Has anybody thought about some of the synergies that can be made. Hmmm how about a printer that you can directly connect your iPod to and print photos on it. Remember Apple did create some photo storage capabilities into the iPod recently. I think it would be totally cool.

Re: HP iPod
It's good that HP and Apple are such good friends now. There was a terrible period of about 2 or 3 years when HP wrote none or terrible drivers for all their Mac products and had very few printer the old school Mac printer port. Then about late 97 and boosted by the iMac and its USB ports in 98, HP started writing decent Mac software again.
We just got an HP all-in-one and you can use absolutely every feature and it even has some Mac specific output options (make AppleWorks documents, referencing Preview by name). Far better than plunking down a lot for a printer and finding out a large fraction of it doesn't work with your computer.

Re: HP iPod
1. Ok, so do PC's have Firewire ports?
2. This won't be like the clones because this time Apple is making the devices and just sticking someone else's logo on it (whew!).
3. The "Eagle" line of cars were manufactured (assembled) at the Diamond-Star plant in Normal, Illinois (now a Mitsubishi assembly plant).
4. Bye bye Mr. Dell & Mr. Gates....get your own iDeal!

Re: HP iPod
knowing HP one thing they will change is its iPod will come with a USB 2.0 cable instead of Firewire (or both). With apple you must purchase a $20 cable.

Other than thier LaserPrinters (Which Apple Bascially invented didn't they? Or least made affordable first or something), I was under the impression that any of Apple Inkjet type printers (everything after ribbons) were just re-branded HP printers...

Re: HP iPod
I think this idea is pure genius. Apple needs to do everything possible to keep Microsoft out of the music market, and Quicktime/AAC/MP3 the standard instead of WMA. This deal makes that one step closer to a reality.
Look at where digital music is going. It's going to an online pay-per-track scenario where Apple (or some other company) is basically the distributor. Apple is making products to encourage grassroots music, and providing a vehicle that could potentially allow such music to reach a huge audience.
Apple isn't really accepting submissions of single tracks from aspiring musicians to sell online, but I bet they do before you know it. And when they do? The huge cut that goes to the label is going to be split up between the artist and Apple. And you had better believe Apple will be taking a much bigger piece of the pie.

Re: HP iPod
A really important point to remember here is that if Apple sells ENOUGH songs through the ITMS than said ITMS will become PROFITABLE BY ITSELF. More userbase = more songs sold = that much closer to inherent profitability.
There is some solace in knowing that some things just can't be attained by throwing piles of money at them in the name of corporate greed. --CaptKevMan

Re: HP iPod
The first StyleWriters were remanufactured Canons. Example: StyleWriter, StyleWriter II, StyleWriter 1500.
Later StyleWriters such as the 4500 were remanufactured HP printers a la the Deskwriters (they look like them, as well).
