tongue  Were you already in the military when you joined the clan? Either way, you know that she probably won't have comp access for quite a while. Hence the "good luck bit." wink That, and these are hardly the best times for new recruits. One of my friends signed up for a non-combat position, and, last I heard, was being trained for fighting in desert terrain and weather. Never can tell.

Thanks for posting that, I'd probably would've missed it otherwise. I guess everyone moves on to bigger and better things. But at least she's coming back! We won't forget about you in the mean time.

Re: The Passing of an Era

no, i hadnt forgotten about telling you folks, i was planning on posting that news along with the announcment of who the new JKII div leader is going to be, but seeing as how that is being voted on in the OF now (and they can be kind of slow about their checking of that forum sad ), i havent even asked the person who i would like to see it be yet, but i should make an announcement tomorrow about that up

anyways, thanks for the encouragment. sorry about being so slow about getting this done. I had all my plans ready ages ago and next thing i know its less then a week before i leave and nothing is ready yet  eek

just getting some stuff ready for my give away thing. Im gonna have a lot of my stuff (books, clothes, food) set out on tables at my house and my friends are gonna come by and relive me of some of my stuff which will be nice big_smile

it sure will be an intresting life change so well see what it brings  up

I was in MA for about 2 years before I joined the Army, I just didn't post much... still don't, really...  shrug

my position is 'non combat' but I'm with the medics in a mechanized infantry battalion.  shrug  You're right, You never know what happens. (I'm getting my desert uniforms tuesday, and we're loading our vehicles on the train/ships middle next month)

And I know she'll do fine.

And Chewie, try to keep things that you care about, it sucks to have all your possessions able to fit in one medium sized duffle bag, and things you might think are 'crap' now may be precious to you later. Just something I found out...

Uh, maybe this isn't the right thread for this, but I'm confused.  The division itself doesn't get to decide who leads?  That doesn't seem right.

I've had people email me about this question, and I've told them this privately, and now I'll say it in public.  I'm not sure we need a leader.  Or just one, anyway.  We seem to do most things in this division either by committee, or one member gets the gumption to do something specific -- like the guys working hard on the web page, and BioUnit stepping up and being treasurer/chief JS.com liason, or Ear gathering the skins.  In fact, most, if not all the active members have contributed in thier own way, in their own time.  Indeed, this is not unlike the "actual" (read: George Lucas Star Wars Universe) Jedi Council.  That seems to work well for us.

Well, that's just my take on it, anyway.  Oh, and the other thing is the timing of the decision.  I'm in the midst of moving cross-country, Fluk3's suffered an injury that's holed him up (and hey, get better soon, man!), Ben is on winter break (actually I expect many of us were/are), Bio might in hibernation (wink), Mishura is is stuck without broadband for the moment, and I think members are generally off doing thier own thing, or at least have been for a few weeks.  I expect people will start getting involved -- or at lest playing -- soon, within a week or two.  (i know I will.)  On the other hand, if having a say in who the next Neuvo Jefe is isn't in the cards, then that doesn't matter, I guess.

Plus, I know of a few folks who are interested in the position, and it'd be nice if they could "throw their hat in the ring", as it were.

I'd like to hear what the membership thinks about all this, myself.  shrug

Re: The Passing of an Era

Well one of the main reasons for is a leader is basically someone that can speak directly to the leaders of the clan itself. You can change the meaning to make yourself into a council ruled body but you still need someone that can directly handle matters in the main Clan [MA] ruling body.

The responsibility of doing this duty requires someone that the leadership deems fit to handle that responsibility. They must be able to represent [MA] to outsiders. The person must be dedicated to the survival of the division itself. The person will be given responsibilities in deciding the future of the entire clan itself. Its not a job to be taken lightly nor to be given to just anyone.

I cannot speak totally on behalf of the rest of the leaders. But to me if you want to continue with your jedi council, I see no problem with that as long as someone on it acts as a Yoda figure and reports to the rest of the [MA] ruling body. Other divisions/squads have done similar council ideas, they have worked well. But the clan needs to keep its structure sound. Can't have every division basically becoming its own independantly ruled micro clan. [MA] would fall apart.

Hey look at me i'm actually supporting the clan's government big_smile lol. How times have changed eh big_smile.

Re: The Passing of an Era

I'm confused about this "leader" thing too. What is the origin of this directive? linkage? I assume it would have to be someone who actually plays on the server and knows all the members, right?

What sort of decisions would this leader make? What maps to use, testing and installing mods, wether or not to upgrade to jk3, who to ban or unban which members are impostors or trouble makers, attracting new, cool people as members, training of newbies. So far that kind of duty has been done mostly by bio, bird and myself. Not to toot our own horn, but it has been a lot of effort to get us to where we are. We've put in a lot of hours trying to make this a better place. (the gameserver not the website)

To quote NightCougar_37, "someone that can directly handle matters in the main Clan [MA] ruling body." I'm afraid I don't know anything of this "Clan [MA] ruling body." What kind of "matters" would they handle? Sorry if I sound surprised but none of this was ever explained to me as long as I've been here, not even when I was made an admin of the server, nor was bio when he was made treasurer (from what he told me). Miscommunication I guess?

I've never seen any interaction between the MA JK2 members and this MA body. Does this have to do with Macaddict INC. and it's website deciding who can have a dedicated forum? Or is it something else?

Re: The Passing of an Era

Well, I can definitely see a need for a liason with the larger [MA] clan community.  We are a division, and not a clan unto ourselves.  We are part of [MA], and that's good.  As NC said, I think this can work well within our division structure.

I'm also getting the idea that that person would be invited into the [MA] Officer's decision-making means for the entire clan.  In that way, our division would continue to have a say in the larger clan (as opposed to our division) issues.  What those may, I confess, I have no idea.  wink  But that also seems like a good reason.

Well, I think I get the role of this new person a bit better now.  I just think the division itself ought to have a say in it.  As it is a Clan [MA] position as well, obviously the [MA] management (officers) ought to have a say, maybe final say, maybe give us a few candidates for us to choose from, that's seems reasonable.  And I'm not sure our own division would choose to call that new person the "leader".  But the name isn't all that important, either, is it?  It's just a label.

Well, it's a certainly going t be a time of flux and change here soon.  We've all got to make a decision soon about moving on to JK:A, as well.  I'm sure it'll all work out.  I look forward to getting back in the swing of things and meeting up with y'all on the server in a few.
