I just ordered iLife

I did so under the Government Employee Discount Plan and so it was just under 30 with shipping and tax. I originally wanted to get the upgrade price as I thought since I already purchased the original iLife I would qualify. Come to find that is not the case which is kinda of lame, but at least I saved $20.

Whatever, I'm still psyched to check it when it arrives on Friday. Words of wisdom: Get the regular ground shipping as it is guaranteed to arrive on Friday (the rep I ordered from asked me which shipping method I wanted and I had to remind her of this which she then confirmed).

Yeah, Apple generally upgrades their shipping. I usually get most of my stuff from Apple with the free shipping and then it gets upgraded for one reason or another.

FWIW, if you buy a new mac on or after jan 6 you can upgrade for $19.

Re: I just ordered iLife

That happened to me with the original iLife and I figured I'd have to mess with the upgrade thing when I noticed I had all the old stuff on first boot.  Then the iLife CDs fell out of the box and I was a happy camper.

I wouldn't have bought iLife 04 except last Christmas I got a keyboard and it happens to have MIDI jacks so I figured what the hell.  I ordered the appropriate MIDI-->USB stuff and iLife 04.

I wonder if Apple will bundle iLife '04 with the OS 10.4 CD

I think I'll just wait for next October when Apple releases OS 10.4, so, if the next Mac OS X is not as new feature rich as Panther was, well, at least GarageBand and the other updated iApps will compensate smile

Re: I just ordered iLife

You guys think that if i ordered my custom powerbook last friday (the ninth i think) it will show up with ilife? I called my sales guy today and he said that it wouldnt come with it, but that it would be a free download after the fact... Kinda doubting that apple will have it posted as a download, but who knows...

Re: I just ordered iLife

Yeah, no free download for GarageBand and iDVD, they both will include Gigs of other materials (loops, sounds, DVD Themes) that won't be realistic for download.  Maybe iMovie, iPhoto and iTunes though (I think iTunes is already current though)...

Anyway, I'll get my copy through work at the end of the month... CAN'T WAIT, got my electric Guitar ready (dusted it off, haven't played it in years, didn't own an Amp, was never a problem in college since Amps were a dime a dozen, but now my Mac IS my AMP!)...

Re: I just ordered iLife

10.3 didn't come with iLife.  I know iTunes is installed, I don't know about iPhoto and iMovie but I know for a fact 10.3 wouldn't magically add iDVD.  So I wouldn't suspect 10.4 would include the space hungry apps like iDVD or GarageBand, so I would abandon that hope.

I doubt it would come with GarageBand. Panther comes with iTunes, iMovie, and iPhoto I believe. GarageBand and iDVD are too big.

Someone told me in a different thread (quoted from some mac news site) that you wont be able to DL iPhoto and iMovie anymore, duno if its actually true though.

I hope that iPhoto really is faster; the bigger my library gets, the longer it takes to open.

MacRumors and Forbes were the sources, I think.

Well, by what steve showed, it is faster. Since it didn't do stuff that fast before when he showed it. Even though my library now has like 1700 photos now that Iv cleared out like 400 of them that were duplicates or not good photos, its not as laggy, but still slow. Especially when dealing with my 8MP pictures, the 3MP ones it can do fairly fast, but the 8MPs take considerably longer.

The only reason I got it was due to the new features/improvements in iDVD and especially iMovie. Although I have and am versed on the use of Final Cut Exp., it is not as fast in creating a movie project as iMovie and also the movie project in FCE takes up much more hard drive space since it is "nondestructable" (I do not have an external HD).

Re: I just ordered iLife

If I live in a house with three roommates and we order the iLife family pack for the house, does anyone think that's violating the TOS?  It says "for household use only" and we're all Mac users in one place... so we should be ok right?

And if that's ok, what about guys living in a dorm? The copy of iLife would stay only with five guys from the dorm. Does that count. Some friends of mine are chomping at the bit to get GarageBand and they live in a dorm. It'd be nice if they could pitch in for a family pack and all get the software for cheaper. Especially since they'll all be in the dorms until well after the next versions of these products come out.

So masses? What say ye?

Re: I just ordered iLife

I don't think a dorm qualifies as a household, so technically it would be illegal in that enviornment.

But Apple doesn't employ a lot of stringent anti-copying measures on the consumer stuff - they prefer to leave you to your own conscience.  twisted

My Combo drive iGHZ 12" PB came with 10.3, iPhoto, iTunes, iMovie, iDVD. Bassically it came with ilife.

Yeah, I think that if it were going to be available for free download they would have mentioned it, and they haven't...  So I doubt that is a good sign...
