More revolting garbage from Michael Moore...

Check out this German site. Select the British flag for language and look up "Bowling for Columbine." The cover for the DVD is this:

http://66.119.198.19/BFC.jpg

The caption, when translated, says this, "You haven't yet seen America well!" Rough translation, but you get the idea. This is above and beyond all bounds of disgusting. Moore will sink to any level to make a buck, and shame on the Germans for this kind of thing as well. Moore didn't have the balls to put that on in the states because he knew he'd be limited mostly to a freaky Goth audience and would have had his ass roasted by the public. But it's fine in Germany, and that's disgusting as well. Anyone care to defend this completely tasteless and nauseating piece of garbage? I'm talking about both the cover and Moore.

Re: More revolting garbage from Michael Moore...

I doubt Moore had anything to do with the cover of the German DVD, just what exactly is your point?

(Edited to add: I don't come around here as often anymore, is this the sort of thing we're supposed to just ignore???)

It's an attention grabbing cover.  I preferred the american cover, but whatever.  What exactly about it am I supposed to defend?  The cover does hint at what the film is about (high gun violence and gun obsession in america).  Because it is a controversial look at america, the tag-line works, though it sounds like it would apply to any controversial type thing.

Is it any worse than the Muslim/Jewish/African-American/You Name It stereotypes that are so common in North America?

They're all smurfed, if you ask me, and just perpetuate smurfy images.

Do you see me condoning those stereotypes? And Seargant D, I think Moore would have had to green light the cover before it went to press. It's utterly revolting.

No, I think you should be equally outraged about all stereotypes. This is no more sickening than the kind of smurf that's all around us.

Re: More revolting garbage from Michael Moore...

I do not consider Michael Moore, the author or the director, to be a U.S. citizen... he has certainly earned the wrath of every American and his criticism of American culture characterizes him as distinctly un-American and foreign. The next ship leaving this country should have him on it for ports unknown... does not matter. This nation would be much better without him in it.

Thanks for the clarification. I think that does have a different meaning, though no doubt the Moore-haters will disagree with me on that one.

Re: More revolting garbage from Michael Moore...

So is it Michael Moore or the cover that bothers you?  I don't have a problem with the cover, nor the caption.  If you have a problem with Moore, then don't hide behind other ideas and ideals to attack him, just come on out like CD does and say that you dislike him without having any real rational cause.  I would venture to guess that it's because he has the balls to tell the truth and is willing to go against status quo and (gasp!) people listened and liked his honesty.  I also know that as a rabid Bush supporter, you might never know what that feels like to have someone you admire have the courage to tell the truth and have people admire that and listen.
Personally, I just think you're jealous.

Re: More revolting garbage from Michael Moore...

eh, i don't really have a problem with the cover so much.  his book is about guns in america and children getting shot.  now as far as michael moore's actual message and his outlook on things, i think he's a bit extreme and is mainly out for attention.  i can't stand the guy personally.

Just a small correction that has no judgement about your comment at all: it's a documentary film not a book.

Moore isn't worth making a topic about IMHO.

He's been proven to be a liar over and over again.

Do a search for "Micheal moore" and "liar"

You'll find plenty of Micheal Moore propaganda debunking.

There was times he out right lied. And times he twisted things and took them out of context.

He is not a honest man.

Re: More revolting garbage from Michael Moore...

I hardly think the DVD cover or the phrase is cause for outrage.  The US. is an extremely violent culture.  We shoot eachother.  Our kids, in growing numbers, shoot eachother.  Hell, we'll shoot anyone.  Moore's documentary asks why and seeks to explore some of the possibilities.

Sure it's slanted, but if that's what pisses you off then most things must piss you off.

Contrary to CD's strange and fruitless insistance that Michael Moore is not an American because he disagrees with him, I'd say Michael Moore is a good American.  Considering that most Americans do little more for their country than whine at family dinners and Internet forums and vote every four years, I'd say, whether I agree with him or not, Michael Moore is a good American.

LOL! Normal as in left wingers?

Facts are facts. No matter WHO says them.

You can't make up MM taking things out of context when he did.

Or ignore the obvious distortions.

Guess what, I live in American, and I don't lock my house when I leave.

According to MM that happens in Canada, not America.

Actually CD, those view you stated are some of the most anti-american feelings there are.

Lets try this again, but with a subtle change:

Do a search for "George bush" and "liar"

You'll find plenty of George Bush propaganda debunking.

There was times he out right lied. And times he twisted things and took them out of context.

He is not a honest man.

Now... which one is a sometimes funny kook and which one is POTUS?  And which one is more dangerous in his lies and deceit?

So the best example you can give is that he didn't consult you before making his documentary on whether or not you follow the door locking procedures set forth in it?
