Re: What Ringtone do you use?
I just got rid of our landline and went to cell only.
i've heard of people doing this and it becoming a nightmare as far as increased wireless time reflecting heavily on their bills... does not having a landline (eliminating that cost) just balance it out?... i'm interested so that when i eventually move out of the dorms i can decide whether or not to get a landline phone...
Not only that but all your calls are out there for a select number of criminals who have the equipment to listen in to your phone calls.
Let them listen. What kind of calls are you making?

A lot of non-criminals have this "equipment" too. The equipment itself is legal. My (slightly modified) HT can pick up wideband signals, including people's cell phones.
I haven't listened to them though. --Judging by what I overhear people talking about on their cell phones at stores and such, there are surely more interesting conversations to be found elsewhere anyhow.

My understanding is that you can't do that with digital signals. True?

Re: What Ringtone do you use?
Is there a downloadable file that sounds like an old-fashioned phone? You know, the ones with the bells? That'd be cool.
Now, that would be cool. Of course it would completely throw me off if I heard this on the street.
I have an old style rotary. forget touch-tone.

Digital spread spectrum (Code division <CDMA> and Time Division <TDMA>) makes it harder, but not impossible.
Just like back in Saigon! Eh, slick?

Beats me. All I know is that I can hear some people every once in while if I scan through the cell phone range. I assume it's people on their cell phones, but I guess it could just be people breaking the law.

Re: What Ringtone do you use?
I use the default Nokia ring. It reminds me of the British comedy "Trigger Happy" every time it goes off and I have to resist the urge to pick up my phone and shout into it: "Hello?!? No! I'm in the toilet! No, I'm not bothering anybody!" in a British accent.

Re: What Ringtone do you use?
I would kill for a polyphonic ring tone capable cell phone...
But, baring that, and not having any real way to get them onto my phone except manual entry, i figured i should make it worth my while to take the time and enter it in, and not finding Prelude on any of the ringtone sites that show how to put it in, i went with the most annoying (to others) that i could think of: "Tetris A Type" baby!

I use Sorcerer's Apprentice for just about everything, Blue (by Eiffel 65 or whatever) for some stuff and a scale for people I don't want to hear from, like my parents.

Try using we FExplorer - it's a windows-esque explorer interface that allows you to browse the file structure of your phone - very useful.

Re: What Ringtone do you use?
People that are not in any groups ring the glorious tune : Glory, Glory Man United
The people I go riding with make my mobile ring to 50 Cent's : In da club
My work collegues : Big Pimpin' from Jay-Z...but they don't know.
My wife rang to Crazy in love from Beyonce for a while...now it's Hey Ya.
Used to have Take me out to the ball game too...but whenever it rang.. I unconsciously started humming along missing all those calls.. so I took it off.
Sad, I know..

Re: What Ringtone do you use?
I've recently trimmed the number back on my phone. The main ringtone is Tomoyaso Hotei - Battle without honor ot humanity (kill bill song)
I've got Grandmaster Flash - whitelines for my best mate.
Queen - "Flashhh... Ahhahh....! King of the impossible" for another.
And i've got a sample off a Fatboy Slim track for my message tone. The 'check this out-t-t-t-t-t' part off 'everybody needs a 303'

Nice.
Well, before this gets locked for dredging up the zombies of yesteryear, I'll go ahead and reply as well (so yer not the only one hydraulic!). I use a custom ringtone composed by myself on Reason. Individuality is the best. I mean, come on. Everyone can have "In Da Club" but no one has my tone!

Re: What Ringtone do you use?
My cell phone is always on vibrate. If I had an option to download a ringtone and use it, it would be the sound of crickets chirping.

Re: What Ringtone do you use?
Vibrate.
Ringtones are annoying.
Right on, 99% of ring tones are sooo annoying and unprofessional! I found a very professional and loud "normal" electronic sort of ring for my Siemens S56 (had to go to their German site to get it). God, people seem to love the most annoying ring tones though.
