Well, I'm at the part where I got stuck at last time:

"Failed to load project file.
Please enter a valid project file."

I forgot which file to choose. (Thats when I try to open up Q3 in radiant)

Use this for your user0.proj file:

Re: Mapmaking!

Wow!
I don't know what happened. Since the old map making thread was gone, I couldn't find the user0.proj file contents on here, so I went to redsaurus's gtkradiant forums, and found the tutorial there, and im not sure if it worked or what, because whenever I started up radiant, it said my project file was invalid.

Now, when I did it over again with yours, it didnt even ask for my project file... thanks!

im back baby!  wink

Re: Mapmaking!

Ok.... Next problem. Compiling: What are the terminal commands for this? I tried q3map2 and it said the command didnt exist or something.

Re: Mapmaking!

I just use the BSP menu in GTKRadiant. If the user0.proj file is setup correctly, it should just work, unless q3map2 is located somewhere else (it should not be though).

Re: Mapmaking!

Here's a useful thing I found:
How to decompile a BSP file into a MAP file
use this command in the terminal:
q3map2 -game ja -convert -format map absolutepathtobspfile

This is very nice, as you can see what other authors are doing with their maps (don't steal though!). Here's an example:
q3map2 -game ja -convert -format map /Applications/Games/JediAcademy/base/maps/t2_trip.bsp

Re: Mapmaking!

Ah, does that convert a .bsp file to a .map file? That would be great for me! I lost my .map file for [MA] Council v1, and it would be great if i didnt have to totally restart my map. (I would, of course change basically everything in the map though  tongue )

Re: Mapmaking!

Yep, it creates a file called mapname_converted.map in the same folder. It spat a bunch of errors out to me when I tried it, but the map looked fine in the editor, textures were right on. smile

Re: Mapmaking!

Hey, I have a problem here:
http://jeapadea.spymac.net/pics/baddy.jpg

The texture is suppose to fit the screen (Thats an iMac, but you cant see the rest of it) but it gets shrunken down to that little size. This is happening for about all my textures in this map, all smaller. This didn't happen to me when I was using Radiant on my eMac (I'm using the exact same textures too)

Re: Mapmaking!

To fit it to the size, you select the surface (control-shift-click), press S, then select 'Fit', with 1 and 1 in the height and width boxes, then click ok. Unless that is what you were doing

Re: Mapmaking!

Yeah, it all looked fine in radiant, but once I got into JA...

No matter, red got it fixed for me, I had to get rid of /base at the end of my fs_basepath in the compile.

Re: Mapmaking!

I'm planning to get 3 or 4 maps that I started/nearly finished completed by Christmas, or, if I can't make that, the end of the year. Screenshots will be edited in shortly big_smile .

Re: Mapmaking!

Man, you want to get 4 maps done... I want to get 4 rooms done in my map  tongue

Question here: I need the texture for lights, like not just a light entity, but emitting like, like some of the models do. What texture is this? I have never found it.

Re: Mapmaking!

That would be a shader. It's a surface that has special properties. More info

I haven't made my own ones, but the sky shaders I use alot. smile

Re: Mapmaking!

Those models have lightbeams, the black parts render properly ingame. I found a site that has a tutorial on lightbeams here.
