Sigh....
Well damn a whole year lost. No not damn, smurf! smurf! smurf!
Sorry Gui if you were on my IT staff I'd have your ass kicked to the curb in a heart beat.
Is this it!?! A year is the best backup? Odd that the PMs are ok.
It's late, I'm too tired...looks like I'll have a busy Monday.

Re: Sigh....
I'm with you Levi. I would be out the door if I blow out a system like that. But I guess the Forums just are not considered mission critical.

Re: Sigh....
Everyone please take a look at my Damage Control thread. Hopefully, you will be too busy screaming at my stupid suggestions that you will forget to yell at Goo.

Most moderators here are little more than insensitive pricks who ban people that disagree with their opinions. In fact, this message will most likely be deleted shortly, and I will be banned by a moderator who can't stand being argued with by a mere forum member.

You're right. These forums are not mission critical. MacAddict is a magazine. The forums are provided for free courtesy of the magazine. They hog most of the bandwidth and a relatively small percentage of forum-goers are actually subscribers. What are the benefits for MacAddict? They've fought to keep them before, and for what? They see little to no return.
These forums are nobody's job. Niko is the closest real employee to the whole website, but he has far more important things to tend to. I do the best I can with this place, but this is hardly my primary job. Yes, it's unfortunate this year was lost, but things will move on. When exactly did you guys plan to go back and read all the posts from the past year? I feel mostly for the mods who are now having to re-create FAQs and sticky topics. Those are just about the only semblance to permanency in the forums.
Hard work may not kill you, but why take chances?

Re: Sigh....
Guys, stop blasting GUI. If you haven't noticed, he already has the weight of everone else's complaints on his shoulders. I think the least that this division could do for him would be to not burden him with our sentiments.I hope I am right when I say that we're better than that.

Hey, complex systems eventually fail. You learn a lesson and you move on. One thing learned would be to have back ups of any FAQs since those are the most time consuming to recreate. All the other stuff is just water under the bridge.

We had tons of UT2K4 info that has remained in at the top since the game's release in March. Items like FAQ, tutorials, server info, ini hacks, etc... In addition, I for one use the search button. There have been many times someone posted about a issue that was already discussed, not just here in UT2K either but all the forums designed for helping others.
Like the Mods, many users around here have dedicated hours of their personal time to helping others with their knowledge. It is truly a shame that knowledge and wisdom was not taken better care of. To me this travesty is much akin to having your local library burn down.
I understand that the forums are not mission critical but on the other hand they serve MA
