Camp, how do you know Satan isn't fooling GWB?  Only Satan would make war.  Jesus was a hippy, you know.

Calling him a hippy doesn't really fit the picture though.

Point 1. There were not a lot of barbers in Jerusalem!
Point 2. He had a job... did it well I think.

Jesus was no leftist hippy!

Wait, do you really think Jesus would find killing (including war) justifiable in anyway?

Just to let you guys know, but the old "Jesus was a peace-loving fellow" view is rapidly giving away to a far more ass-kicking, even quasi-genocidal version. This has been voiced here in MiniThink, notably by resedit. Clearly Campoid also subscribes to Jesus 2.0.

At any rate, it's kind of a side issue. My original question still stands: God might make mistakes, but humans are fallible. So how are we supposed to know a real God from a deceiver?

His most famous words, "Love one another, as I have loved you" does not match Arnold, Clint, or any of the other "cinema" ass-kickers now does it?

So how are we supposed to know a real God from a deceiver?

You know him from his works and his word... that fabulous sunrise this morning? That's God's hand!

That's totally meaningless. You hear a Voice in your head telling you to do something. A chill runs down your spine. You think it's God speaking. How can you be sure?

First guy I thought of was Son of Sam David Berkowitz, who once claimed a Black Labrador was telling him to kill people.

Since being locked up, he's become a born-again Christian who  talks to God on a daily basis.

He just went from one delusion to another, it seems.

Re: God's talking to you? You sure about that?

I keep hearing about important people (okay, important American people) such as President Bush referring to their conversations (or messages) from God.

My question is, and it's in all seriousness, how is a moral, fallible, flawed human being -- which we all are, of course -- supposed to know when it's God that's talking to them?

Even supposing there's a supernatural souce of the voices (and not merely psychological), how is one to know that it's the fellow Upstairs, and not Down? Satan would guise himself in a fair-seeming disguise, would he not?

In fact, wouldn't devoutly religious believers be easier to deceive than secular folks? If "God" tells the president to invade Iraq, how can we be 100% sure it's not the devil?

And if we can't be 100% sure, should these communiques not be discarded as a source for policy decisions?

Well, who tempted Jesus by offering him the kingdoms of the world? God or Satan? Also, in Daniel, the angel that gives him a prophecy tells him he had to fight the Prince of Persia to get there, and would have to fight both the Prince of Persia and the Prince of Greece on the way back. Who is influencing the governments of the earth, biblically speaking anyway? If it is a deity, its not the Almighty.

C'mon, you had to know Bush was in league with the devil didnt you?

Also, I beat the Prince of Persia myself the other day. What a fun video game, I dont know what the angel was complaining about, but I guess Micheal/Jesus is good on the Gamecube.

Yes I still not really understand in how resedit and campy see god or jesus. Maybe they should tell how they see jesus, would be interesting. Though it seems resedit changed his thinking a bit?

Nope. He explicitly said that God tole him to unleash himself (and the 101st Airborne, God bless 'em) upon the Iraqis.

At any rate, even if it was in jest, there are plenty of people who say this, so the question still applies.
