static IP for ftp outside access

hello, i am running a g3 500 mhz, with 512 mb ram, and Mac OS X 10.2 Sever, i need help making my linksys router send a static ip to my G3 so i can access the ftp part from outside my home network. but at the same time i need my linksys router to still dhcp and send IP's to my other computers. can anyone help?

Well, your Linksys can't give you a static address - you need to put that on your G3 yourself (that's the static part).  Just pick one that's not in the range of addresses the Linksys will hand out via DHCP and it'll be fine.  Then you need to turn on port forwarding, specifically for TCP port 21, and to the static address you configured on your G3.  Finally, you need to look at the status display in your Linksys and find out what public IP address your ISP assigned to the WAN port of your Linksys and you have to hope it doesn't change very often, since that's the address you need to ftp to from the outside world.  Should just work.
