Re: Playing UT2004 without the disc inserted
Uh, no. Make your own disk image with Toast. Talk of downloading one can't be construed as anything but piracy. Please avoid that topic in this thread please.
But I don't understand...if you make your own image, you are basically doing exactly the same thing you are doing when inserting a no-CD program, only one takes 2MB and one 4GB. What makes one legal and the other illegal?

You need two unique cd-keys to play together, last time I checked, so bypassing the cd check isn't going to help.

Re: Playing UT2004 without the disc inserted
Well as you know even though the game is delivered on DVD the key is still referred to as a"CD-Key." The joys of hold-over tech terminology. There are many levels of copy protection. The protection used for the Mac version of UT2K4 just checks to see that there is a "DVD/CD"

My Halo disk image worked OK for me, Doc. I dunno what I may have done differently than you. I'm using Toast 5.2.1.
If you legally own your own copy..how is using a fake disc image piracy?
Hell..that readme even says he is anti piracy and the sole purpose of the disc isn't to help piraters...
Oh well..I'll shut up now.

Buzz...wrong answer.
CD Keys are checked against the master server. If you're playing on a LAN w/o a net connection the same key can be used a number of times.
It is possible to play the same key just not on the net. LAN games are fine just don't have the LAN connected to any WAN, keep it local.
As some may recall I used to offer to let peeps into my LAN parties via the DMZ. Doc was one who enjoyed that. If some have noticed I haven't done that the last couple times. Put 2 and 2 together and do the math.

Re: Playing UT2004 without the disc inserted
Or can you take one set of (PC) CDs and split it into two games? (Mac UT2004 comes on DVD).
No
, please. The makers thought of these issues already; I doubt it's possible.

Re: Playing UT2004 without the disc inserted
I suppose you all realize the latest patch removed the requirement of having the disk in?
...having nothing in them of the feelings or principles of '76, now look to a single and splendid government of an aristocracy, founded on banking institutions and moneyed incorporations under the guise and cloak of their favored branches of manufactures, commerce and navigation, riding and ruling over the plundered ploughman and beggared yeomanry. -- TJ
