Playstation 2 save to iPod?
The PS2 has a USB port, which would fit perfectly with an iPod. I can't be the first person to think it would be great to be able to save my GTA game file to my iPod. Is there a program for this? Anybody?\
PS: I hope this fits in the "Hack" section.

Yeah, it fits in these forums.
That is to say, it would be one hell of a hack, but I've never heard of anything that would help you do that.
All posts on the internet are postfixed by an invisible "IMHO". It's not in the html code, either.

Re: Playstation 2 save to iPod?
You might be better off trying to make it work with a kechain flash usb drive, I don't know if it is possible to get the ps2 to save to a usb device. It would probabley be possible, if you made a mod chip to hack the bios, but it probabley isn't worth it. It would be a hell of a hack.
An interesting idea, would be if you had a PS2 modded with Linux installeld, and an ipod with Linux. Then you could rip CD's through a PS2 and transfer them to the ipod, and use it as a portible hard disk to trasfer stuff from linux system to linux system etc...

You can save to USB keys and such on a PS2, I haven't heard anything about an iPod though.

Re: Playstation 2 save to iPod?
I found this post in the macrumors.com forum

macrumors regular
i use my xbox controller to the adaptor i use it the one i made
its simple the xbox controller is usb with a weird plug on the end so buy a extender cable for xbox and on for standard usb cut them in half and match the color wires(their is a extra ground on the xbox i believe it is yellow just leave it )
plus if you attach the other 2 ends you get a standard usb plug for xbox i use it for my usb flash drive but i can be used for other stuff
yeah thats right i have a gigabyte xbox memory card because of this
__________________________________________________________
This is sweet becasue an xbox memory card costs 30 bucks and only holds 1 halo save, and if you have 5 controlers or something, why buy a new one. This is from a discussion on the drivers for an adaptor. The drivers can be found at version tracker or mac update.

Ok, we've determined that you can save from a PS2 to a USB Flash drive, but, can you save from a PS2 to a bus powered USB floppy drive? Or a USB HD?

Re: Playstation 2 save to iPod?
I just tried to use a 64mb Flash Drive in my PS2, and it didn't work. I popped the falsh drive into the USB port, fired up the PS2 (without a disk in it) and hit "browse" or whatever it is that allows you to manipulate files and such on your memory cards. Anyway, the flash drive didn't show up (it's not a defective flash drive ,it works wonderfuly on my Mac). Is there some special way i have to format it? Or o i need special software on the PS2? If i do need special software, is there somewhere i can download it freely, burn it to a CD-r and run it in my PS2?

Re: Playstation 2 save to iPod?
I don't think that the disk will show up. Have you tried saving a game to it without having a memorycard in the PS2?
I've seen some kind of flashdrive that where supposed to support this kind of action...searching...
Now, where in the name of... did I put that thing that I forgot what it was and why I was looking for it?

Re: Playstation 2 save to iPod?
Here you have it:
http://shop.gameplay.co.uk/webstore/pro … _max_drive
here's a clearer image of it:
http://specialreserve.co.uk/16_MB_Datel … 952_r.html
I have a harddrive in my PS2 but I can't access it without special software and I think it's the same thing with the flashdrive above - you need special software and you need the drive to be Playstationformated.

Re: Playstation 2 save to iPod?
Damn. Is there any way to format an existing USB Flash drive with the 'playstation format' ? Essentially, i've got a USB Flash drive laying around, and if i can use it with my PS2, that would be awsome. But im bot about to go out and buy a special kit to do it.

Re: Playstation 2 save to iPod?
Well if there was a way to get the PS2 to recognise the flashdrive I don't think there would be any problems formatting it. After I'd inserted the harddrive in my PS2 and started it up the harddrive was detected instantly and I was asked to format it to Playstation format(Hm I'm actually not so sure about that last thing there might have been a question asked by HD Advance when I started it up, can't remember now). How about trying to hotplug the flashdrive?
I have a flashdrive too (Kingston) and I can try something out with that one too and see if I find something useful.
I found the website for the company that makes that special flashdrive mentioned above: http://www.datel.co.uk/

Re: Playstation 2 save to iPod?
I tried plugging in the flash drive while the PS2 was on. I also tried plugging it in while the PS2 was off, then turning it on. In both cases I got a very short single blink from the activity LED on the flash drive, then nothing.

Re: Playstation 2 save to iPod?
I've tried that to. Guess there's a reason they're not distributing any software for PS2-formatting and why they're manufacturing a special flashdrive. There might be a way for someone much more technical than me to figure out how they are getting the PS2 to recognise the flashdrive as a memorycard on the other hand there might not.
