Re: Napoleon Dynamite
Mnemonic was the only movie I've ever walked out on. Envy fooled me. I wish it had come with some spray to get rid of it. The one funny/cool part was Christopher Walken: "Good for you. Good fooooorrrrr you."

Re: Napoleon Dynamite
I enjoyed Johnny a little. Only saw it on TV. But I enjoyed it.
As for Napoleon, you wouldn't believe how fast the DVD sold out in every store in the area. Literally every 5 minutes, someone asked if we had it. "Sorry, we sold out in 2 hours. We don't know when we'll be getting more in."
It sold faster than the previous two records for this year at our store, Elf which sold completely out in 2 days and Shrek 2 which took a week. Garden State also broke those two records.
As for MTV pimping the movie, well, I wouldn't know, I don't WATCH MTV. I don't watch it because I'm not a 12 year old girl, and I don't listen to todays music.

Re: Napoleon Dynamite
I think that it is a truly fabulous movie. BAHAahhaa, if any of you have the DVD and haven't seen the wedding scene after the credits, go put it in
your DVD player right now, the way Napoleon rides a horse, oh it's funny, and the close up that they get of his face as he is riding by, hilarious
I have watched it numerous times I don't even know how many, enough to note the continuity errors.
Kip: "So are you ready?"
Napoleon: "Yeah, hold on... I forgot to put in the crystals."
Here are some more funny quotes.

it wasn't as funny as i thought it would be.
Pedro offers you his protection.
funniest part of the movie is where Pedro's homies scare off the bully that is trying to steal that kids bike. hah, they just shake their heads and he bolts.

Re: Napoleon Dynamite
I didn't like it much. And since Jasoco mentioned Garden State, another movie that I've heard so much about, I'll also add that I didn't like that much either. Maybe I just wasn't in the mood... although I cracked up in the scene where they all clapped and the lights turned off, haha.

Re: Napoleon Dynamite
it was hideous.
absolutely horrible.
if you want to see an excellent low budget film, go back to 2001 and watch "waking life"...
dynamite was a waste of resources... just plain stupid.

I found "Waking Life," while innovative...to be kinda boring.
It was filmed in austin, and I knew some of the professors/filmmaking people in it, but that was about the only interest I found in it. Little plot, just a lot of talking heads.

The only part I liked was when the sales person put his tupper ware under the tire of the van and it exploded.(he was trying to show how tough it was)

Re: Napoleon Dynamite
So is this going to be the quality of movies we're doomed to watched for the next little while because everyone is on some "reality" bandwagon?
If it is, that sucks hard. Napoleon Dynamite was one of the worst movies I've seen, and I've seen some pretty crap movies.

That's why it's an Indie film.

Well, there's no accounting for taste in cinema.
What are some of your favorite films?
*edit*
...and I'm really, really confused by your "reality" statement. Were the actors not pretty enough for you?

Since when do indie films have to suck? And if it has the backing of MTV, I don't see how anyone can call it "indie".
As for Bratboy, I'd have to go with anything by Baz Luhrmann or M Night Whatshisnuts, as well as Toys, Boondock Saints, Fight Club, 12 Monkeys, Ghost in the Shell, and probably quite a few more.
There's a butt-ton more that I'd call "awesome" or what have you, but probably are not cool enough to rank as favorite.
I just don't see how something so lacking a plot, a good story to tell, nice visuals, excitement, or a point can be interesting.

Nah, they were all sorts of hot.
I just meant that people in this thread seemed to say they liked it because it was so "realistic" and I was wondering if that was a by-product of people liking reality tv.
I don't get why realistic on it's own is a selling point. Realistic action, sure. A space movie with realistic physics, ok that's cool. A historical movie with realistic settings, costumes, and attitudes, fine. But just realistic on it's own?
Ok, it was realistic. A movie of me sitting on the toilet taking a dump would be realistic too, but that doesn't mean it'd be quality cinema (outside of some creepy websites at least).

I didn't say Indie films sucked. Actually, I love most. Apparently, some people don't.
I loved Napoleon. I loved One Hour Photo. I'm still on the fence with Garden State. (One Hour Photo is a masterpiece IMHO.)

In my opinion, ND is a pretty stylized film. I don't see it as being incredibly "realistic," at all.
As far as your list of favorite films...I agree with one or two of them.

Re: Napoleon Dynamite
Maybe my main problem with the movie is that the most recent kid I knew who was like that was the most annoying person I have ever met. He was like that last time I saw him, at which time he was 23 or something.
I probably would have thought better of it if I could have related it to a kid I knew when I was younger or something, and someone I had some respect for.

I agreee.
I wish people could start understanding the difference between not liking a movie and a movie being bad. IT'S NOT THE SAME THING!
Yeah, Napoleon Dynamite was a lot more entertaining for me than Waking Life was. I liked Waking Life, but I wouldn't say it was a gem.

Very true, but I still say Napolean Dynamite was bad.
