Hosting a DeathMatch Server
Hi guys, I regularly subscribe to the magazine, but this is my first time at the forums; I hope I can get my question answered by you geniuses!
I'm trying to host a server on UT 2004, but whenever I get someone to serach for my name in UT, it comes up blank. I can join other servers and I am behind an Airport Extreme connected to a DSL modem for my PowerMac G5. I heard from someoneon Ut that the ports I need to map are 7777-7787 and 27900, so I mapped those in the Admin utility by putting the private and public ports to be 7777 and so on, and my ip address to be 10.0.1.2, the local address I found int he network system preferences. To no avail, however, my server still cannot be joined. What am I doing wrong and how can I fix it?
Thanks guys for helping me.

Re: Hosting a DeathMatch Server
Is your Firewall turned on on your Mac? Look in the "Sharing" preferences to find out. If so, you can either open up the same ports you opened in your AE base station, or turn off the firewall completely, at least as a test.

No, I do not have the built in firewall turned on. What else is there? Any Unreal Tournament guys that can help me? Is there any way I can turn off the Airport firewall?

Re: Hosting a DeathMatch Server
By the way, I have 20 ports in the Port Mapping section and it wont let me add any more. Any way to add more, or maybe save the list so I can open different lists when ever I need to?

[IpDrv.MasterServerUplink]
DoUplink=True
UplinkToGamespy=True
SendStats=True
ServerBehindNAT=False
DoLANBroadcast=False
Need to open up the unrealtournament.ini file with a text editor and change to bold section to "True". Seems that you have all the ports ok but this lil setting can't be had in game. Oh and make sure that you check the "Advertise Server" box. If that isn't checked you server won't show in the master list. Second the person doing the search/looking needs to turn off any search filters. Like the default "Standard Server" box.
Our server is not a Standard Server and is hidden from many of the new players because they don't look or know that check box is on by default. Adding any mods, even the ones that came with the game will knock your server off the Standard Server list.
BTW we're all UT guys here.

Re: Hosting a DeathMatch Server
Oh, here's something...it may have to do with your internet access. If you have a cable or DSL modem, type in its IP address in Safari (or Internet Explorer) and look for port forwarding, I think. Anyway, look and see if you can get the modem to forward to your computer's IP address. I haven't done that in a while, but I think it should work.
