iPod prices and update? Or something new?

I found this link on the apple site, and I found some of the information listed to be very intesting. A few things are that the reveiwer says that the twenty gig iPod costs $800! That is insane! He also says that the iPod has a removable battery, which I don't beleive. What exactly is he reveiwing? It definatly ISN'T an iPod.

Re: iPod prices and update? Or something new?

I just sent them an e-mail on the article. Hopefully they will fix it.  I'll let you know how they respond.  I basically just said they have the prices wrong and they need to be fixed to accurately represent the producet.  I gave them the correct prices, then apologized if their quoted prices were for a country other than the U.S.A.

So, where do you think he got the idea that the iPod has a removable battery from?

Re: iPod prices and update? Or something new?

if that canadian law about copyrite protection passes iPods may very well be $800 up there.

I dont have the link offhand but maybe someone remebers that proposed tax on digital media. Something like $20 per gigabyte for hard drive based MP3 players.

Re: iPod prices and update? Or something new?

Okay, they made an addition to the link on the apple site. It now says that prices are in canadian dollars. I haven't looked at the actual article yet, and so I will check back in a bit with any changes in the removable battery case.

Okay, the article still says that the iPod has a removable rechargable battery, and as far as I can see no changes have been made to the actual aritcle.

Something else to chew on:

Rumor has it that Ingram Micro currently has NO Windows 5GB iPods in stock AND the Mac 5GB iPod no longer shows up as an inventory item.

Re: iPod prices and update? Or something new?

What i want to know is will a new iPod (probably with Firewire 800) be able to support firewire 400 ports?

they should because if they dont anyone who doesn't have a new powerbook wont get one!

And if Apple gets really slack and makes them only Firewire 800 port compatible, how much will a new Firewire 800 PCI Card cost??

Re: iPod prices and update? Or something new?

Firewire 400 and 800 are completely compatible, just like USB 1.1 and USB 2.  With the new Firewire 800 plug though, you just need an adapter, which I am sure Apple would include.

Re: iPod prices and update? Or something new?

in fact, I'll bet it isn't too long before we see cord with the 800 shape plug on one end and 400 on the other, No Adaptor neccesary, I don't know if Apple will sell these, but you better believe that clever little companies will...
