Printer servers

Short Version:

Will a dp101+ by dlink http://www.dlink.com/products/print/dp101p+/ allow me to connect an HP k series officejet printer to my emac.  I've already downloaded Gimp-Print and the problem I'm trying to bypass is that of sending my printing throiugh the USB port.  Plus, I'd like to be able to print from my Aiport-equipped iBook.

Long Version:

I'm thinking that I've "screwed the pooch" on a printer purchase and would appreciate some direction.

I bought an HP officejet k80xi for my wife's eMac and as HP's only gone so far as to roll out drivers for the g series of officejets, I knew full well I'd be using Gimp-Print and GhostScript to make the printer play nice with X.

Download and intallation of both worked fine, as did adding the printer in Print Center. Printing from within an application sends the document to Print Center, shows it on the Jobs List, then *poof* The print job is gone.
Sourceforge (whence Gimp-Print comes) says but specifically comments on the fact that that while Print Center is sending viable code, k series officejets have some different type of USB interface that requires use of a USB/parallel adapter cable and printer server

Will a dLink DP101 allow me to do so?  Plus, I'd like to be able to print from my Aiport-equipped iBook.

OR ... has anyone been through a similar experience and used a USB/parallel adapter cable and found it to work? I've resigned myself to the fact that many of the printer's funtions won't be available in X until HP drops an update. But right now I have a printer that won't do anything other than fax and give off its new electronics smell (big_smile)

Until then, I'd appreciate any next steps people could recommend.

Thanks, folks.
