How can I put this delicately?
So I was playing Invasion last night on the Omega server with Brain, Chronotrigger, and BJ and at the end of the map (KillBillyBarn, or something like that), my character gets fragged and ends up on her back (yes, I play a female character - Sapphire, I think) on the ground in a pose similar to one would make were one to make a "snow angel". Well, I was idly panning around and happened to approach my dead character from her feet, and since the view was at ground level the view zoomed in rather than have the view point go sub-terrestrial. Here comes the delicate part -- it appears that those rascals at Epic Games might have put more physical detail in some aspects of their player models than one would suspect. I grabbed a couple screenshots but hesitate to post them anywhere because I think they could actually be offensive. Has anyone else noticed anything like this? I understand that the interaction of things like color gradients and 3D surface rendering could result in images that might be reminiscent of "other things", but I find it hard to interpret what I saw as anything other than a prank by some programmer.
Brain, BJ, and Chrono - did you happen to notice this by any chance? Like I said, I have unretouched screenshots, but don't think I should post them.
This is really odd, in a shocking sort of way...

So let me get this straight... you were 'idly' panning around and 'happened' to approach your dead character from her feet?

I think we'll all need to see the pictures before we can judge.

You know there is a word for that.

OMG!! UT pr0n! It's everywhere! Yes. To be completely clinical about this we must see the evidence.

Re: How can I put this delicately?
Hmm... no, I can honestly say I wasn't checking out your players model during the match
That seems odd, but it would probably be something that would be hard to notice during a normal game.

Re: How can I put this delicately?
hmm, sounds like time to switch to a less attractive model, Dana. No I didn't happen to notice anything untoward that night.

Re: How can I put this delicately?
So now are you going to switch characters?
It may be a good idea. If you dont you are going to have the hole team trying to frag you just so they can see.

Re: How can I put this delicately?
OK - I'm going to post the pic on my .Mac web page for a little while so you can see for yourself. All I did was export it from Preview as a medium JPEG file since the .bmp screenshot was 1.8 MBytes. Strictly by coincidence, the text on the screen seems to only add to the controversial nature of the situation - go figure. I'm not going to put an actual link to it, but the file name is "ut-bmp3.jpg" and it's on my .Mac homepage (my .Mac username is the same as my MA forum username). Put these two components together as the URL and there you go.
Post your impressions here - I want to know if I'm being too sensitive about this...

Re: How can I put this delicately?
O my... And I just though that it was just going to be some little line in a bad place. That is just wrong.
This shoudl also change the rateing of the game a little.
I am going to have to go play on server that only let robots play or something... Well they should be safe. I hope.
I would like th hear that Atari woudl say about that.

Re: How can I put this delicately?
Yeah - it's still there. I just checked and the character model is "Sapphire" (though it's hard to tell from that angle).
So, I guess I'm not being hyper-sensitive then.
Doc - my .Mac homepage is http://homepage.mac.com/djdawson. Add the above filename (and a slash, of course) to the end of that and you should get it.

Re: How can I put this delicately?
OK. Yup, fairly close approximation anatomically. That is the skin of the model not the model itself. Given the location and detail one must think intentional rather than accidental. I guess the artist felt free to put in what he/she felt was necessary for the character. Whatever. Is it worthy of shock? Not especially. This is supposed to be a human female. I guess we can put it in the "Easter Egg" file for UT2K4.
(How's that for clinical analysis?

Don't give me the realism spot unless there's the equivalent male flapping in the wind.
Now we're back to the reason why... normal... girls don't play videogames. Habitually, like us.

Re: How can I put this delicately?
OK - I've removed the image from my .Mac site. I guess I've learned that I wasn't hallucinating, but I don't know that it's worth doing anything else about this.
Thanks, I think...
