Re: Halo FPS on a new PB?
6 because you didn't upgrade the flux capacitor.

Well for comparison sake my Dell Insp. 8500 with a 64mb GF2go gets mid twenties @1024 with med to low settings. I think you will do much better than that.

Re: Halo FPS on a new PB?
I get almost 30 fps on my 1.25 GHz PB with a 9600 and 64 MB of VRAM and 512 of regular RAM. The New PBs will run it at around 35 to 40 at least is my estimate.

Oh that is good to know, I can finally play games with more than 2 people without entering slideshow mode.
Man, I was stupid for not checking off the option to update the flux capacitor at apple.com, I guess it happens to the best of us.

Re: Halo FPS on a new PB?
If I can just sell my Cube and my PC for reasonable (read: ridiculously low compared to what I paid for them) prices, I should be able to get a 12" w/ Superdrive, 100 gig HD, and 768 MB RAM without any additional help.
I would desperately like to upgrade to a 15" with the 9700, but if the money ain't there, it just ain't there.
And, unfortunately, I probably won't be able to get rid of my Cube until this summer...

Alright, as a couple have found out recently, I just got me a Cube off ebay. Pretty much mint condition too. Probably overpaid but oh well, not gonna sit around biddin for it
.
Anyways, now comes the fun stuff which you all can help give input on. Upgrading and tweaking the heck outta this!!!
Current Specs:
G4 450Mhz/1GB RAM/ATI Rage Pro 16MB/smurf DVD SR-8186
I know I need a fan upgrade but does anyone know what CFM the GigaDesigns blue led fan pushes? Would like to really max out the cooling as much as I can. I've spliced together my own power cables with cooling fans before soo i'm not too worried about what type of connector a fan has.
Now in graphics (critical area, Rage 128 sucks!!), i'm itchin for a Shader 2.0 card which means i'm going to have to flash unless ATI pulls their heads from their butts. So looking at FX5200s or R9600-R9800s for a flash. I've read up on these a lil bit at Cube owner but I know not everyone may check there so I figure to get some input on here. I'd really like to flash a R9600 due to the power requirements inside the Cube. I would go R9000 128 if I really had to, but i'd rather exhaust the more extreme options first.
Processor I want to totally max out. Looking at the Giga 1.5Ghz 7457. Now I can last on the 450 for a bit so those that know the processors, do you see anything faster than 1.5Ghz being possible for the Cube? Also, any issues with those Giga 1.5s that I should know about. I won't have the funds for a bit to get the CPU so i'm flexible on what i'm interested in here. But due to power and heat constraints, i'd like to keep things at a 7457 or better.

I will be on, playing my graphical games.
I painted ceilings to get the money for my PB, your neck is kinda stuck in one position afterwards, but its worth it.

As far as I know the 15" and 17" PowerBooks have had 9700s since the upgrade before this. The 15"s were even upgradeable to 128MB VRAM back then too. The only thing that's change is Apple added dual link DVI ports so you can spend that extra $3000 you have sitting around on a 30" Cinema.

Re: Halo FPS on a new PB?
I'm guessing you have the Radeon 9700 Mobility.
You'll play it just fine. Probably better than my Dual 1.8 G5 with its 5200 Ultra.

Laptops already have heat issues. Not a good idea.

It's used to increase/decrease your ATi graphics card's RAM speed and processor speed, often at the expense of fidelity and heat conservation.

It's safer to use if you can open up your computer and add a better fan/ramsinks to your video card, but with a PB that's just not happening.
