Removing Other Languages in OS X

I recall a trick one could use at the command line in OS X which would remove all of the excess languages from the computer.  I did this on my iBook and it freed up an amazing amount of space.  I lost this code, however, and now that I am getting rid of my eMac for a PowerBook with a slightly smaller hard drive, I might want this hack once again.

Anyone know how to do it?

TIA!

Re: Removing Other Languages in OS X

sudo find / \! -name "English.lproj" -name "*.lproj" -type d -exec rm -r -- {} \;

that'll do it

of course...be careful...I once deleted half my data trying to mod this command without understanding it fully.

Re: Removing Other Languages in OS X

I used a program called "monolingual", I found it on versiontracker. It's GUI, not that I dislike the terminal, but something mistyped could cause disaster.

Re: Removing Other Languages in OS X

I' reviving this thread because I by misstake installed every language there is on my new G5 and I now I really would like to remove all but two or three of them. I checked out Delocalizer but I couldn't find any info saying it supported Tiger. Any ideas?

Never mind. I found the solution in the application Macaroni... . Had already registered a copy but forgot that it had that function too. smile

Re: Removing Other Languages in OS X

Can anyone tell me if these programs remove all the Kanji/Arabic/Urdic/etc. fonts as well? I've got a ton of these fonts, taking up space. I've turned them off with my font program, but still ... I'd like to keep the Latin- based languages, but otherwise I don't need the rest.

Re: Removing Other Languages in OS X

Mono and Delocalizer both do just that.. leaves you with one language.
Macaroni on the other hand (a registered version) will strip what you don't want and leave what you do.

Man, you know you are an old computer user when you can remember when saving 500 meg of HDD space would have been a big deal.
