And you wonder why your computer isn't working right [pics]

If only they could see the inside of their computer, then they'd stop complaining about how poorly their Mac is working and realize it was their own fault.

Yeah, because it's the user's fault that he/she didn't open up the machine with "no user servicable parts within" just to blow the dust out!

Obviously!

If there is that much dust inside the machine, they obviously have it in an environment that isn't fit for a running computer. The thing is yellow because of all the smoking that has gone on around it. That is something the user must realize can cause problems.

People seem to have forgotten about keeping your computer in a good environment. Remember those Syquest drives? Oy.

Firewire ports weren't working and RAM was only being recognized as 128MB (and not 256MB). RAM chip was good, because it was tested in another machine.

I know someone who has some old HP, and it has a lid for the front USB ports, and when he opened it and blew, it was like this huge cloud engulfed him.

No. I'm not saying the dust and crap did it, but the damage that was caused was permanent.

If that's what the smoking did to their computer, I'd hate to see their lungs.

Aw, come on, your being sarcastic right?  Sometimes I have a difficult time telling.  shrug

But any nitwit with half a brain realizes you can't submit ANY electronics to that type of enviornment and hope to have it function a normal life expectancy without cleaning them out.  I'd hate to see what their TV, VCR, DVD player or whatever looks like.

I thought it was common knowledge that an owner should at least on occasion open up and clean out their computer.  Every few months or so, at least once a year.  It is not like that iMac is hard to open.  If I recall correctly you just have to unscrew 3 screws on the bottom(?) to pull off the top.  I could be wrong, it was a few years ago I had one of those G4 iMacs, but I do remeber it was user upgradable (RAM, HD) plus I had to open it up other times for various reasons like resetting the PRAM, battery and such.  Not a monumental task at all.

Just ignorance and neglect.  Wow, from the looks of it I am surprised it lasted as long as it did.  I would figure it to have crapped out a little sooner with the size of those dust bunnies in there.

Re: And you wonder why your computer isn't working right [pics]

All I know is, the computers we had at our office were that bad or worse, and we usually didn't touch them for cleaning because doing so usually disturbed the delicate balance of operation.  We found that the dust bunnies typically were holding critical systems together. wink

No doubt, it almost looks like some mold is in there for goodness sake!  Unbelievable.  It would take me about 10 years minimum to collect that much crap in my Macs without ever cleaning them, by my estimate. Heck....almost 2  years I have had this 1.6 G5 running 24/7 and when I just opened her up yesterday to install a new 120 SATA HD I was amazed at how dust free she was.  It is also in a fairly dusty room I should say.  I only open up my machines about once a year to blow out dust and etc......clean em' up pretty good.  The best preventitive measure I would say is just once a month at least "swiffer" your work area and then use a vacuum attachment to suck out/clean the surrounding area and the outside vents of the machine itself as well.  Seems to work for me since that is all I do and I have a pretty dusty house which needs cleaning quite often.  Open windows, a dog, kids....all bring in quite a bit of filth, hair and whatnot.

shrug

Just my 2 cents.

Re: And you wonder why your computer isn't working right [pics]

You should see what 10 years of smoking (my father before he quit) did to the inside of our alarm main box.

Man there was a coat of brown over all of the interior (this thing hadn't been opened in 10 years).

So i've seen worse.

You have to let a computer get filthy or it becomes self aware and spews out the name of <I Am That I Am> and crashes.
