Re: Led Zeppelin gets Grammy "Lifetime Achievement Award"
The time to give them Grammy awards was thirty-odd years ago.
At the time, Led Zeppelin was never even nominated. Now the experts of Grammyland want to redeem themselves for ignoring Led Zeppelin for most of a lifetime. Is it me, or does that sound a wee bit hollow?
Last year they gave a "Best Rock Vocal" award to Dave Matthews. Dave Matthews. Ponder that.

I was listening to the Current the other day, and they were sitting around going through the grammy nominations and making fun of most of them. Now thats my kind of radio station.

Re: Led Zeppelin gets Grammy "Lifetime Achievement Award"
Aren't Lifetime Achievement awards reserved for people that had long productive careers, not just people that had careers long ago? When was the last new Zeppelin tune? For that matter, was there a tune or was it just shreiking with guitar accompaniment?
If the same six tired old Zeppelin songs on the radio constitute achievement, God help us all. However, musical popularity and Grammy awards are often inversely proportional to quality and talent so... whatever. Please feel free to tear me to pieces because I don't like to hear high-pitched non-singing recorded on old equipment that high-pitched everything anyway.

Re: Led Zeppelin gets Grammy "Lifetime Achievement Award"
Congrats to them. But, Led Zeppelin does not need validation from some lame-ass award.
And no, I don't have one. But, Milli Vanilli won a grammy, for chrissakes. It's not that big a deal, as they usually ignore the artists who deserve the awards.
BTW, Robert Plant doesn't shriek. Shrieking is for people who don't have his vocal range.

Shrieking is for hardcore and schremo.
On the other end of the rope, Robert Plant makes me shiver when I hear Stairway to Heaven. I think there is a major difference.

Jimmy Page and Robert Plant have appeared on Austin City Limits at least once each.

Jesus said to the servants, "Fill the jars with water"; so they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, "Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet." They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew.

If you base your opinion of Led Zeppelin on what's played on the radio God help us all.
Listen to Zep I. And bear in mind that Plant and Bonham were nineteen years old when the album was recorded. What did you do when you were nineteen? Did you happen to record one of the greatest rock albums ever? No? They did.
If you think Zeppelin is nothing but screeching and guitars you've never heard Zeppelin.

Not a Grammy.
But I have won a pile of crappy hunks of metal from mountain biking and road racing.
Where are they now? Who knows?
I never kept one of them.
Personal achievment is heartfelt. It's better to remember the looks on their faces after you crushed them than to have a shiny thing on a shelf.

You could frame pictures of their crushed-looking expressions and set them beside your trophies.

The first side, haha...
How do you flip an MP3 onto the other side?
My 'rents were watching the grammys yesterday, and when I asked 'Why!?' they said that Led Zep was being nominated or something... With a
I said uh-huh and left.
Now, don't get me wrong, I love Zep. I have the mixed-up jumble of a greatest hits boxed set on my iPod, and listen to it all the time. But receiving an award for their accomplishments 30 some-odd years later? Bleh. To hell with it. Their real reward is people still listening to their music, through the test of time, while a song by Shaggy that was released a year ago (maybe?) is long forgotten after being played every 5 minutes on Z100.
smurf the Grammys, and all those award shows. Music is for creativity and enjoyment, not to receive well-polished statuettes and put your label on sneakers.

I have a Hammy.
(NCSU student theater award for Best Supporting Actor in "Hot L Baltimore" - it was a glass piggy bank, spray-painted gold and hot-glued to a wooden base)
Man, I hadn't thought about that in years....now, for all of the people dissing LZ, well, you weren't there. Led Zep CREATED heavy rock!
Aw, he's no fun, he fell right over.

Re: Led Zeppelin gets Grammy "Lifetime Achievement Award"
the grammy's are out of touch. does anyone still watch them or care who wins them? it seems like for the past 10 years the grammy's have pandered to the flavor of the year and one hit wonders.
led zeppelin deserves a lifetime acheivement award, but not from the grammy's.

Re: Led Zeppelin gets Grammy "Lifetime Achievement Award"
I'm glad that best album went to Ray Charles because if it didn't it would have got to Usher.
I want to burst into the doors of the Grammy's saying "I DOWNLOAD MUSIC! STEAL STEAL STEAL! AHAHAHHAHAHHAAAAAAAAA" and then I'll be tackled by Nelly or something.
