You can make one with a sharpie and a river or sea washed stone.

It'd be different if somebody thought a massively expensive piece of jewlery were requisite, but that's not the case here.

I just don't understand why 'Valentine's Day" is so important.  I like the concept of the day, but where is the rule stating that it has to be celebrated on February 14th?  People would be better off selecting their own day of the year to do something special.  They could either save money on prices, or spend the same amount of money and get more.

Then go for it.  There's still no reason to be contemptuous of somebody who decides to spend their money on something ephemeral like flowers of expensive like jewlery just because you think it could be better spent.  In all honesty, a gift like that is even more special when you know somebody can't really afford it.

and iBubba, thanks!  I will love him and squeeze him and name him Bob!

And it might be just the thing that rekindles their love for eachother.

The rule is that it is called Valentine's Day. Personally, I think it is a lot of fun to go to a swanky restaurant and enjoy a meal with my baby, surrounded by others enjoying their evenings with their beloveds.

Converse to your camp, I don't understand the opposition to VD. shrug Lemmie have my fun and leave the socio-economic politics out of it. wink

If you and yours want make a special day to celebrate your love for one another on any date, by all means, Happy (insert ****day here)! Just let us know when the event is... big_smile

Where have I been contemptuous of anyone else's choices?  I've stated my opinions and said to each their own.  I know that my opinion is not the one shared by the majorty.

Yeah, "special" in the retarded way.  But once again, if someone spending money is what gets you off, I'm not one to wish unhappiness.  Spend away!  Just be careful not to trade a moment of happiness for a lifetime of struggle.

Well, might as well transfer this thread to Rant Room...

I bought her a $150 necklace from Tiffany's for goodness sake! Where the hell are y'all inferring I am putting myself through the financial wringer for the day that is very special to me?! And Conner - your observation of "anniversaries" kinda proves your lack of reading the very first post...

So, please, quit pissing on my parade :)

Anyways...

What are those people who have blindly bought into the commercialism of Valentine's Day getting their sweeties?

Re: Valentine's Day - what are you giving your sweetie?

I went to Walgreens and got a $4 box of those valentines kids give each other in grade school.  Then on the back I wrote things like:
Did I know what love was until I met you?
and
Some men say they have seen angels.  But I have seen you and that is enough.

Then, I numbered the evelopes and scattered them around the house.

Tonight we will go have a $12 dinner @ Red Robin and catch a movie.  I figure the whole thing will cost me about $25.

I made her a card out of construction paper and sent it, along with a book I hope she'll like in the mail. This weekend I'll see her and I'll bring undergarments and flowers.
