Apple Axing Displays
Spymac reports that Apple's 22" Cinema Display will be discontinued by March along with 23" updates.
Apple Display Rumors have persisted for some time now... with early predictions reporting that a 19" would find its place in the mid-range.
Big hints at 20.1" Apple Displays came today as well. The March time-frame for changes (if true) would likely bring a revision across the entire line.
What's up with rumors of Apple getting rid of its 15" and 22" displays in favor of 19" and/or 20.1"?
Anyone heard about this? Why do you think they'd get rid of so many and make such big revisions all at once?

Re: Apple Axing Displays
I honestly don't understand how they will get rid of the 15". It should still be available for people who want a low-cost flat panel Apple display. Apple hasn't been selling it directly for months now.
As for the 22", I've heard the rumor, but I have yet to see it.

Re: Apple Axing Displays
would it make my 22" a collectors item?
and would a 17" 19" an 20" be a very diverse line up? I can think of better offerings... Then thier slogan could be fewer choices AND a wacky connector!

Re: Apple Axing Displays
The 22" display was originally introduced as a limited edition model with only 10,000 being produced. I'm surprised it has lasted this long and was surprised at the introduction of a 23" display.
BUT, since then I have come to an understanding. I don't think Apple will get rid of the 22 or the 23. I have heard lots of those reports of the 20.1" being produced by a new Chi something or other company along with a 15.4 display for the new mid range PB's (yes, this was before MOSR posted the report about it today).
The 15.4 will be in the new PB's and the new display lineup will be 17, 20, 22, 23 I bet.
Apple won't kill their diplays. They take too much pride in the digital connection and the ADC plug.

The 17" Model is $999. Bofre the 15" was discontinued, I believe it was $599, might have been $499, but I don't remember.

Re: Apple Axing Displays
I wonder if Apple will update the technology inside the displays? Digit magazine had a flat panel review a few issues ago, and their conclusion was that the Apple flat monitors are overpriced considering the technology inside is a few years old. I think the Sony flat panel had the best ratting, and was considerably cheaper than Apple.

I'm afraid Apple is starting to lean on its old technology a bit much. They need to start out-with-the-olding and update those products.
