Bush plan pays big for SUVs
[url]Bush plan gives huge tax break to buyers of big SUVs
DETROIT -- Buying big, luxurious sport-utility vehicles could cost a lot less under the Bush administration's economic stimulus proposal, even though a Bush appointee blasted SUVs last week as dangerous fuel hogs.
Small businesses and the self-employed could deduct the entire cost, up to $75,000, from business income the year of the purchase.
...
As a result, an accountant who'd do fine with a 30-mile-per-gallon compact sedan as a company car could be enticed into a big, 15-mpg SUV instead because of the deduction. Or a real estate agent about to buy a 20-mpg midsize SUV that doesn't qualify for the deduction might opt for a full-size SUV instead, because it does qualify.

Re: Bush plan pays big for SUVs
Its not specifically for SUVs its for small buisiness trying to buy heavy equiptment (over 6000lbs gross) of which SUVs fall into that catagory.
I know quite of small businesses here that could benefit from that.

Computers and other equipment do also get favorable treatment in the provision to help small businesses and the self-employed upgrade their hardware. But the language regarding vehicles limits the tax benefit to those with a gross vehicle weight rating of 6,000 pounds or more. That means full-size SUVs and pickups.

Right On ! My parents said that they'll be getting me a new car this semester. I'll have to see if my dad will buy me a Land Cruiser so that he can simply deduct it as a business expense.

Re: Bush plan pays big for SUVs
This is nothing more than putting the tax code back the way it was before Pres. Clinton's changes. (don't get me started on that, I still have hard feelings for changing the rules retroactively)
Basically, this plan would allow you to 709 them again, now you have to depreciate them over term.
It does nothing to change the fact that even now, the accountant can write the suv off his income tax as a business expense.
Just one more in a countless string of examples of knee jerk reactions and pronouncements slanting the story from certain sectors regardless of the real truth.

Re: Bush plan pays big for SUVs
Yes, Tievsky. We should definitely pay taxes so people can pay less for a big SUV than for a more efficient vehicle.
I pay taxes for that very reason.

Yeah, right ! A Range Rover is nothing but a Ford Explorer with square wheels. Toyota is the only way to go. Actually, I'd prefer a vintage late 60's or early( very early) 70's FJ Land Cruiser, but then my dad couldn't deduct it.

I don't know much about SUV's either, but my uncle is into "wheeling" big time, and he claims that Toyotas are by far the best ever built, particuarly the FJ45 series land cruiser from the late 60's.

What was your reasoning behind posting a quote

You are correct Ronald.

Would you stop posting the same crap over and over again? We understand that SUVs are included, but other vehicles are too. Its not EXCLUSIVE to SUVs so stop saying it is.
