Re: My iPod is dead

See the "dead iPod" string for my rant. On the good side I was in Vegas sipping Mai Tai's. Went browsing by the pool with my Shuffle. Decided I needed a dip, with the ear buds in music cranked mind you, and walked right into the pool dunking my shuffle. Music kept playing! As I realized I submerged my iPod I jumped from the Rio Pool and shook off the water, the thing did not miss a beat! Freak HUH! Anyway you might ask how I could be so careless? Well the good bartender Josh at the pool side bar was serving 84oz Mai Tai

Re: My iPod is dead

I don't think iPods are any less reliable than other HD based players. Most last well beyond their warranty period. If there was some signficant flaw, I think with the millions of iPods sold every quarter there would be some awareness of the issue (besides the battery thing.)

I also think newer iPods are MORE likely to work longer, since Apple has had multiple design revisions to work out any weak spots. The hard drives themselves are the same size as before, with just larger capacitities. Hard drives are not ideal for portable devices, but what can you do?

Mine actually just crapped out, but it's still under warranty so I'm taking it in to an Apple store.

Also, the extended warranty for $59 a year is not a horrible deal I think.

Re: My iPod is dead

so i can assume that mine is dead...
i let it play till the battery ran out(which i've always done)
picked it up to charge it and when i touched the wheel it started up and said it has low battery and went nighty night. put it on the dock and nothing happened. no logo , didnt show up on my desktop, didn't open up itunes.
tried all different ways to plug it in and nada...just blank screen.
i think 1st gen, its the first 40 gig they had.
it's been flawless till now
any suggestions?
thanks in advance

Re: My iPod is dead

My 3G has acted strangely for a long time.

Mostly just the skip through problem on songs (which is fairly prevalent I think).  A month or so ago it kept reseting and continuously displayed the apple logo.  I finally got it to stop by running disk utility on it.

It works fine now, for the most part (of course the battery life sucks).  I suppose I'm about due for a new one.
