PPC 970 in powerbooks?

I hope no one thought I was going to say a rumor in here, I'm just curious as to when you guys think we'll be seeing the 970 in powerbooks.  They are supposed to be perfectly designed for this job because they are low power no?  Do you think it could be as soon as September? (I know it's a long shot, but this is probably when I'll be buying a new powerbook).

Let's just wait and see if the 970 actually shows up in Macs period (unless of course you know something we don't wink ).

Seriously, September is a long time away and anything could happen, G4s at higher clock speeds with hyper transport, G5s with hyper transport, or even AMDs with hyper transport (never say never).

Re: PPC 970 in powerbooks?

Look at the history - PowerBooks have usually lagged way behind the desktops in terms of processor in use.

That might indicate a delay between introduction of any new chip in the desktops, and its arrival in the PowerBook lines.

Re: PPC 970 in powerbooks?

When they come out the 970's will be used first to really push pro desktops as that has been a sore spot for some time. Once that is ironed out and pro users are happy again they will "wow" everybody and say and we can also cram all that pro power in a laptop. Since they will be made at the new 9 micron plant I think laptops will be a good home for them eventually.

Do you think we will ever see dual PowerBooks. 970 at 1.4ghz will only need 8w i think. So 2 of them will still need less energy than 1 G4 smile

Re: PPC 970 in powerbooks?

I remember reading something about a laptop version of the 970 at 1.2 GHz.  I think it was in either MacAddict or MacWorld.
