Apple should always do what it did with my mac mini order.. frist put up "expected shipping date: 20th of february" and then ship it a month earlier.. I allready had my mind set at using my iBook 500 a month longer as my main computer, but then came the pleasant surprise!

Well, I got a bit distracted in my preparation for the exam, and it ended up being a LOT harder than I thought it would be. Still, I passed it. My suggestion: buy and read Mac OS X 10.3 Help Desk Essentials. Make sure you know it inside/out...take notes, make sure you know the test quizzes at the end of each section.

Good luck! up

I know I don't have to tell you, but you are going to love that new machine.  I'm using a 12" PB @ 1GHz and the thing is great.  It needs a new battery, though.  I have killed this one. smile

Yeah, mine too.   Do you think we killed it, or it got squished from an update?   I actually think the cold weather (it goes with me on a motorbike at 70mph) might have had something to do with it.

Oh, and well done on the purchase.   You will certainly love it.   I've had 3 iBooks and a couple of PowerBooks, and the 12.1" Aluminium is certainly worth every penny.

I'm not sure.  I have been told I killed the battery for having my laptop plugged in so much.  Yes, I'm definitely guilty of that.  I guess I have to pony up for a new battery.
I suppose it could be a software issue, but I'm too lazy to go back to 10.3.0 and reinstall the OS updates. big_smile

Re: (2-year wait) + (12" 1.5GHz Powerbook) = :D

Hi.. so I'm new to all of this.. I've been a windows user since I ever started computers.. or so I thought.. just realized that the first computer I learned how to use was a mac.... lol

Any how.. its time for me to go to college, and I'm going to one thats wireless.... and chances are that I'm gonna be using the internet alot.  Having recently gotten spyware on my home computer... I'm reluctant to spend $60 on a yearly memberships of norton.. (which only notified me that i had a trojan.. did absolutely nothing about it)

Anyhow.. my question is whether or not it would be a good idea to get the 12" powerbook.... the cheaper one..lol... as opposed to getting a dell, for about the same price when all is totaled up with the discounts and what nots.

Here's my dilemna.. my father doesn't like macs.. i think he doesn't wanna learn how to use it.... (old fashioned).. but if I can convince him that it would be better for me to get one, then I'll have his blessing on purchasing it, and possibly help with payments.

The only thing is that I wanna make sure that my money won't be going to waste.  I realize that they are expensive and all... and this decision won't be a hasty one..

My other question is about the financing.. I went to an apple store last week and they told me of something about 3 months with no interest. A few days ago, I found something linking my credit card company, MBNA, to the store, but I have no way of knowing when they have that 6 month deal with no interest.  I can pay the amount.. but not in portions that are that high per month.  I'm a student and even with that discount its not enough..

Any ideas would be really appreciated big_smile

Yes. It would be a good idea. It would be a better idea to get one once you're a student of the school because you can get a discount.

Well, he's not the one who will have to learn how to use it. Also, start a new thread with specific issues. Macs are more secure, there's plenty of software, and if you need a Windows machine the school will provide you with one. Also, there's a recent issue of Consumer Reports that ranks Apple as the best computer company both for tech support and for repairs and serious problems. And tell him that there are 59,940 viruses for Windows, and only 12 or so for Mac OS X. If you're going to be relying on this computer for school work, you need that kind of security. You don't want your term paper to be eaten by a virus your roommate got, and would you rather be wiping and reinstalling windows on a monthly basis (like some) or partying, er, studying?

There are no known viruses for OS X.

Right, sorry. There are twelve viruses for the classic Mac OS, but there are none for OS X. And most of the ones for the classic OS don't even work in OS 9.

You'd think that my three cups of coffee would have kicked in by now.
