scsi converter or card?
simple question - we've got an old AGFA scsi scanner in the office, which we use on our old G3. It's the only thing that hasn't moved over to the new G4 (dual 867).
What would be the easiest / cheapest / quickest option to get it over to the G4 - install a scsi card, or get a scsi to usb/firewire convertor?
also, what are our chances in getting it to run in X?

Re: scsi converter or card?
To me, a SCSI card seems much more reliable. Adaptors may, or may not do their job. You just never know for sure. Plus, if it's a fast pro scanner, a card may be able to reach faster speed. Your USB is actually not meant for high speed data like SCSI.
Originally USB was meant to replace serial-bus, and Firewire to replace SCSI.

Re: scsi converter or card?
I use a SCSI scanner with my G4/450 via a SCSI card that I purchased with the computer. It works with no problem in X with Vue Scan as my scanning software.
I've heard that adaptors can be hit or miss. If you absolutely had to use an adaptor, a SCSI/Firewire would probably be more reliable than a USB adaptor.
HTH!

Excellent - looks like we're going with the card.
Thanks all!
