Wondering about a "video iPod" ...
There's been a lot of talk about this lately, but I'm kind of puzzled about it. What sort of video clips could it play?
For example, would you be able to maybe drag-and-drop from a DVD movie, then watch it on the road? I guess not. But what else would you want to play?
Just curious ..

I wonder that same thing whenever someone brings up a video iPod rumor.
...Why?

Re: Wondering about a "video iPod" ...
I'm sure if they made one, it would have the ability to hold anything you made in iMovie. Maybe it could be a convenient presentation device for people who don't have a DVD player or burner. I'm not really sure how useful it would be unless it also had a TV tuner built in. And since we're still waiting for an iPod with an FM tuner, I'd say that it would be unlikely. I'll have to wait and see if the other portable video players that are coming out do well in the marketplace.
Apple can afford to wait on this like they did with the iPod. If people want such a thing, Apple let other companies jump in first, then blow them away with a much more elegant design.

If it happens, I suspect it will be basically a QuickTime port to iPod. Not very robust, but good enough to get the basics done.
A DVD on iPod (say either full screen or wide screen) would just be eye strain though.

Why would anyone want to see a movie or anything else visual sensory on 2-inch color screen? I have a 20-pod, which I love. I have plenty of space for such a thing, but it seems beyond its function. I also have a laptop, which is more appropriate for the task, it seems to me.

Re: Wondering about a "video iPod" ...
What makes you think the screen of a video iPod would be the same size? It might be the entire face. Turn the ipod on it's side and you could have a 4" x 2.4" mini wide screen
Or the design could be like a mini tablet where it opens like a laptop with controls against the HD and once you get the movie going you rotate the screen and it closes back on the HD with the screen and the playing movie on the outside!!

Reasons for:
- 'twould be cool.
Reasons against:
- it would make the thing damned huge
- the screen is too small
- it would make the thing damned expensive
- i just wouldn't be...right.
To be equal you have to add or subtract. And I have never liked math. People who want to be equal's lives are filled with subtractions and auditions. We will call you back and tell you. - MM
