Linux on my Powerbook?
Hey everyone. I'm fairly new to the forums, and don't know if this is the right board in which to post this, but it seemed good, so here goes:
I have a 6 month old 1.5 GHz PB G4 that I use at school. I love it and it works great, but lately I'm toying with the idea of making it a dual boot machine, and having it run Linux as well. This would give me more options higher-end computational software that I use for school, and it's also partly due to curiosity that I want to do this.
Anyway, is such a thing possible/practical to do on my machine? If so, is it as easy as simply partitioning my hard drive and installing Linux on a separate partition? Any advice or warnings or whatever that anyone can give me would be appreciated.

Re: Linux on my Powerbook?
Basically yeah, partition and install.
Note that you may not get the benefit you think with respect to the higher-end computational software. If it's only available in binary form, it's likely only for x86, thus won't run on the PowerBook even with Linux. If it's available in source code, it may well work with OS X.

Re: Linux on my Powerbook?
you could also try 3 other options.
1. see if your software is available for os x via fink
2. instal linux on a small firewire drive
3. ssh -X into the box.
if you are unsure if the warez you need will run under linux ppc, i'd go with option 3.
