Located the sulphuric acid on ebay but couldn't locate a plumber's snake anywhere. Don't say I didn't try to help you out.

Cynicism is for the young. It's something that, with experience, one fortunately outgrows.

(Proud to be a Native New Yorker. However, I live in NY only in my mind. My body resides in Pennsylvania where folk are definitely less cynical.)

PS: Was it cynical that this whole thread is a jokey anyway? -- it was started with a question that other MAFers (Stoned and Freakout Jackson) in another thread said I would be likely to pose.

Then there are those whom circumstances age before their time.

Vonnegut.  He was actually a very non-cynical person. He was very good friends with one of my editors. Vonnegut loved to party and meet new people.

Now don't get me wrong. Cynicism, like pork chops, is delicious when done well but not overdone.

I just got into a fight with my wife.

Her loser brother got kicked out fo his house and is now staying with his mom who we live with, but we live downstairs. (Don't even suggest that we should move out. I've already tried.)

So her loser brother, who's a carpenter, needs a place to keep his tools. He decides he'll put them in the spare room we have where we keep all of the building materials and other tools. It's a pigsty.

So I start to organize it. I put all the tools in one place, I stack up all the boxes of screws and smurf that are all over the place because "we can't throw away this funny shaped metal thing! We might find out where it goes!"

I'm testing a circuit tester to see if it works, and she walks over and says "need help?" "Nope, just testing this thing."

Then she looks in there and says "that's not organized! He'll never fit anything in there!"

"Well, there's all this smurf in here we're not allowed to get rid of."

"Yeah, but when I said 'organize it' I meant take everything out and put it all back in again, only neater."

"Well, if I did that then there still won't be room in there. Because, you see, it has the same amount of volume. And if we stack it all up, we won't be able to go in and grab something, because we'll have to move it all before we get at it. And you know who's going to be bothered to move it? Not your brother; not you; and not your mom. I'll be the one who gets interrupted to go in there and move smurf so you can get at something."

By now I'm pissed. If she wanted it done a certain way she should have told me how she wanted it done. She's notorious for this. Nothing is ever done right unless she supervises or does it herself.

So I just shut up and start moving everything out of the room. Meanwhile, the loser brother, who we're doing this for, is upstairs watching TV, like he always does. She keeps harping about how I always argue with her and how I should just do it her way and how I'm lazy. "Do you even *want* to do this?"

"No." I say.

"You're so lazy! This is why you hate work, because you hate to do anything. I'm sick of this. I'm so angry!"

Then she screamed and ran into the bedroom. About 15 minutes later, she stomped out and put her coat on.

I told her, "First, I don't see why I have to do this when your loser brother is the one who's got the problem. Second, I don't like being taken advantage of by your family. How would you like it if I told you you had to clean out something because my brother needed a place to put his smurf."

She turned to walk out the door.

"And I'm not putting any of this smurf back, either."

She slammed the door.

So I got dressed and came to Panera, where there's food, water, shelter, and free WiFi.

So my wife hates that I:
- Don't do smurf she says to do the way she wants it done
- Am apparently lazy and selfish, even though  I bust my ass 8 hours a day (plus an hour commute each way) to make 80% of the money, I live under her loud, stupid, smelly, lazy mother, and I do a lot of the work around the house so she has the time to get her masters degree.
- Don't like being taken advantage of by her family.
