Thanks! We have fun and graphics talk in [MA]Halo, too, where the Battle Cat (BC to some of us) can often be found.

Re: UT2004 Graphics Quality Mac VS PC Related Question

I have downloaded GLView for OS X. OS X supports OpenGL 2.0 except some specific functions (some shaders). So, OS X supports OpenGL 2.0 and I'm sure tiger will FULLY support it.

1)--G5 2.5 GHz, 9600XT, 1GByte RAM, a NEC display supporting 1280x1024 resolution OS X 10.3.8.
2)--G4 Dual 1.25 GHz with 2GBytes RAM ATI RADEON 9200
3)--iMac G4 1Ghz with Geforce4 MX 768 RAM os x 10.3.7
4)--iMac DV 400 MHz 384 RAM And an LC475 (Yes, the one with 25MHz and 12 Mbytes RAM!!!!)

Re: UT2004 Graphics Quality Mac VS PC Related Question

The shadows aren't really important--they don't affect gameplay.  It's not like they're genuine light sourced shadows that add atmosphere.  But the sound problems are a huge issue for seasoned players.  Using sound to locate your targets is a vital strategy, and it just isn't currently possible.

But otherwise, it's an excellent port.  Remember UT2004 was written for DirectX; its performance also suffers under OpenGL on the PC.  I find the game performs equitably to similarly powered PCs and it looks identical, except for the shadows, which I honestly never noticed because I don't use them.

Re: UT2004 Graphics Quality Mac VS PC Related Question

High-res textures- most eye candy- isn't 'needed' for good gameplay, but it's still nice to have. Many hold that the original UT had better gameplay.

I like the shadows. The Win OGL renderer is unsupported and unneeded; it's not the primary video API.

Mac UT2004 is still a fine port, unfortunately held back by the state of Apple OGL when originally done.

Re: UT2004 Graphics Quality Mac VS PC Related Question

At least, I would like to see a better sound for UT2K4. Let alone shadows... Just the sound.

Bu I don't see that happening...

Let's see what Ryan Gordon posts after Tiger's release.

Reports say 1.5, but that's not bad; only ATi officially, fully supports 2.0 yet on PC. NV is still at 1.5, and their OGL drivers are still the best Over There. Doom 3 runs well, looks good.
