7300 and AHA2940UW problem
SCSI and MAC 7300 problem:
I run a 7300 / 180 upgraded with an XLR8 G3 processor.
It has x 2 2gig internal scsi hard drives at present.
I have a 16 gig Seagate ST318437LW SCSI HD -( which has a 68 pin internal type connection), which I want to utilise in addition to or instead of one of the 2gig hard drives.
(In its previous life the 16 gig was run by an AHA 2940 UW SCSI pci card, -they were pulled out of a Power Computing Mac clone).
The above 2 items are known to be good. But the AHA2940UW doesn't work in the 7300.
PROBLEM: Although a win machine and another Mac (G3) both recognise the AHA2949UW card, when I install it in the 7300, it will not boot at all, just a black screen.
I've tried removing the other drives, booting from system disk, etc. to no avail.
I've changed the ID No# to an unused one, set termination to Auto, and I've flashed the firmware on the card to ver 4.0
Could this be an incompatability between the 7300 motherboard and the AHA2949UW?
POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS?
Could I use the internal scsi chain (instead of the AHA2940UW) by inserting a 50 pin to 68 pin adaptor to connect the internal SCSI cable to the 68 pin connector on the16 gig HD?
OR is there any other option (without spending much moolah).
Any other test that I can perform? Note that I can't do anything with the AHA in the 7300 'cos it won't boot. But I can 'see' it when it's in another computer (Biege G3)
What gives?

Re: 7300 and AHA2940UW problem
Well I can answer this one myself, having finally tracked it down. To work in a Powermac 7300 computer, the AHA 2940UW SCSI board must be 'flashed' with Adaptec's firmware ver 4.1. But! this cannot be done on the 7300 (or any box that is classified as an A/V machine). So the AHA2940UW card needs to be dropped into a 'non A/V' box such as a beige G3, then Flashed using this specific file:
2940UW v4.1 A/V Flash Utility
(note A/V in the filename), - then the board can be installed in the 7300.
Thankme for my help!
