If you are looking for a higer end solution that will give you more options, check out Cleaner 6 from Discreet. It will also allow you to compress many other formats (IE .mov, .mpg, RM, etc.).

I can't understand what rick wrote.  Please try again with punctuation.

Re: Need ot convert .mov files to .wmv files

There was no insult in my post, merely a request for improved grammar.  If you are sixteen years old, you should have the ability to convey ideas using proper grammatical structure.  There's no need to get defensive and snappy, nobody's being a jerk here.

As far as I can tell, you are asking for a .mov to .wmv converter.  One has already been posted in this thread.  If you are looking for a converter to use on your PC, you may find that you'll have better luck on forums dedicated to Windows [rather than one entitled 'MacAddict'].  That said, there is a Windows-specific forum on this website.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some 'dungens' and dragons to play.

You still need Flip4Mac since Cleaner does not have the latest Windows Media codecs.  I think it has version 7 or something, and I believe you need to install WMP for it to work at all with those codecs.

I'd go with Flip4Mac since you can use it in any app that uses QuickTime, so you can just use Compressor to do it.

What kind of .mov files are they.  If they are raw DV files, then install Quicktime and use Adobe Premiere (which allows use of QT for video) to edit them... done.

Re: Need ot convert .mov files to .wmv files

If you want the most compability for the most people on the web, then just compress them to MPEG-1 files. Usable in WMP and QT. Pretty sure you'll be safe with the Linux crowd also.

Re: Need ot convert .mov files to .wmv files

When it comes to compatibility, you can't beat MPEG-1. I like ffmpegX, which is $15 shareware. Apple's Compressor (if you have it) exports MPEG-1, but I'm personally not crazy about the quality.

For Windows Media, Flip4Mac is the best current solution (on Macs, anyway). The Studio version, for $99, encodes Windows Media Video 9 Standard. The latest version of Cleaner only encodes Windows Media 7--no change from the previous version of Cleaner which has been stagnant for the last couple of years. Besides, it's $599. If you do transcodes for a living, maybe it's a solution, but for mere WMV export, it's overkill.
