PunnBB and PMs

I scrolled down and didn't see a recent post explaining why PMs were eliminated... perhaps I missed it. Anyone wish to explain why?

I know that my opinion doesn't carry much weight here but other boards make use of PMs and I see their utility herein... my  two cents...

Re: PunnBB and PMs

PunBB currently does not have a pm ability and I believe the mod for it was broken at the time the new board was installed.

Re: PunnBB and PMs

It has themes, which are much harder to make and install. Besides, I like PunBB. It renders fast.

Re: PunnBB and PMs

I am working on a template that uses *NO* tables and matches my site. It too is sitting in the abandoned airfield part of my server.

Themes are much more powerful, extensible, and customizable than stylesheets anyway.

Re: PunnBB and PMs

The speed increase has been worth it I think.  Plus, you forget that some evil gremlins within phpbb were bringing our server to its knees with frightening regularity.

As soon as the PM mod for this version is available, they're coming back.  I pine for them as well.

Yes but in practice what we got was themes lacking certain MAF features. Only subsilver support everything, and it was ugly, too much like XP.

And much, much harder to work with.

Re: PunnBB and PMs

I like PunnBB.  I don't like the lack of PMs and polls, but I'm betting that we'll have both of those eventually.  The board now is more dependable than it used to be, and MaxAttack is fun to use.  smile

Re: PunnBB and PMs

PMs are just a crude hack in a place where email fits the bill perfectly.

It's my opinion that PMs should go away permanently.

There's plenty of people here that I might want to say something to directly without giving away my e-mail address.

If you can't say anything nice... tsk, tsk.

Really, we shouldn't have to hide behind the internet - if you don't want somebody to know your email addy, you're probably better off not communicating with them at all. Flame wars, private or public, are stupid and pointless.

Hell, that's not half as good as what I misread when I scanned it.  I got:
