A Mac Robot!

Ok, I have a killer idea for something I like to call the "PerformaBot". It is a performa with a "Personality Card" which has RCA ports and it also has motors (and wheels) mounted to it. I would control these motors with something called a "BrainStem" (learn more at site). Then I could mount a camcorder on the top, have speech recognition like "go" and "stop" and all this can be done with RealBASIC! The only problem is price. You can learn more on http://positron.frob.us/bot.html . Feel free to post ideas here. But wouldn't that be super cool?? I know, I know...cheap iBorg ripoff. Well, it certainly inspired me! But this one could work smile

You're going to have to speak a whole lot louder for the powers at the mag to hear you.   tongue  I suggest the direct approach.  An e-mail to letters@macaddict.com might work . . . .

Re: A Mac Robot!

Will this robot be able to sell cars to keep up with the competition?

Dammit! You beat me to it! I just had to read that stupid cat story and waste time, all the while I could be mocking the cube smile

Obsessed with the idea of Zen perfection, Jobs had his designers create the first NeXT computer in the shape of a cube -- a heavy magnesium cube that was expensive to produce and difficult to ship. Convinced that networked computers were the way of the future, Jobs banned the floppy disk from NeXT's first machine -- a decision that made distribution a challenge for software developers.

Convinced that CD-ROMs were a passing fad but that rewritable optical storage was the way of the future, Jobs signed a deal with Canon to equip every NeXTcube computer with a 256MB magneto-optical drive -- a drive that proved to be finicky, unreliable, noisy, and incredibly slow.

The NeXT computer had a proprietary keyboard, proprietary mouse, proprietary video display, and even a proprietary laser printer. In a world that was increasingly moving to commodity computers running third-party operating systems like Windows, NeXT was retrograde.

On second thought, the cube is kind of depressing.

Re: A Mac Robot!

its an open-source servo cnc (computer numerically controller) machine controller. With a lot of work it could be used for your purpose :?:  :?:
have a look. it was created by NIST and has a fair number of current users.
