The laugh's on Amazon and Aspyr, eh what?

I'm only expecting cool graphics and a standard id shoot'em up, so I doubt I'll be disappointed.

It's Here!!! I'm loading it now. More later.

Re: It Came From Amazon: Doom III 4 Mac

Are you playing this on the PC, Doc?

I had to lay off today; I don't have any blinds in my office since I got the new windows, and I just can't see a damn thing, even with the flash light. I've just acquired my first shotgun, and fell for the trap, making it out OK after a reload.

I'm totally enjoying this. Doom was the first game I got into on the Mac. I'll never forget downloading the demo from Apple eWorld (remember that???), and thinking this InterWeb stuff is cool; heck I'm playing a great game for free and I didn't have to leave my desk to get it!

Doc knows I use a dual 2 Ghz G5. My 9800 Mac Pro SE (256 MBs VRAM) is chugging away. I'm using Medium settings (640x480) but with the AA set to 4x; so far so good. I wonder if an X800 is really worth it.

My problem with games like Doom III is that once I start I can't stop till I hit a wall and can't seem to get beyond. Then it is break time and start again the next night. I had the same problem with good novels

Re: It Came From Amazon: Doom III 4 Mac

On my PC (which is no sloutch) I did not use FSAA/AA  and ran it pretty well at 800 x 600. The graphics card is the 9800 same as the Mac. Even without FSAA/AA the game still looked great.

Re: It Came From Amazon: Doom III 4 Mac

Yes it really stupendous looking. It bodes well that the port has made it to Mac shores, even in a weak first showing, as Raven Games is hard at work on Quake IV using the new DIII engine, which means I may even get to play it! I've been a Raven fan for quite some time, so I'm happy!

Doom3 is primarily a one person game. The game is not much of a multi player game.

I know, but every time a new game comes along, somebody suggests a clan. People are still suggesting a Starcraft clan, for pete's sake.

If there is a large enough outcry and someone hardcore enough to lead it then there might just be one. No gurantees tho.

Re: It Came From Amazon: Doom III 4 Mac

I'd give it a try!

I have to say the game hasn't disappointed. I got the game expecting a tribute to Doom, which it royally is. Doom (and DIII), for me, was mostly the creepiest resource gathering game out there. Get the ammo, get the shields, get the health and move on; spending most of my time saving, and replaying the next nasty encounter, hoping for a better result. If only life worked this way.

If you didn't dig Cacodemons in the first place, you'll probably hate DIII.
