It's not so bad if you keep the checking light.  I mean, if you just check for blacklisted files, it should be good.  The rest of the stuff is just extra precautions.

I like AntiTCC, just because it's very good at ensuring that no one is hacking on the server (it's not perfect, but at least it keeps the n00b hackers out).  Bundled with UTAN, it's great.

What about wallhacks and brightskin hacks?  These are very hard to detect manually...  Although, most aimbots are pretty damn obvious when they cheat...  Even if you weeded out cheaters manually, who will have the time to do that?  Anti-tcc is automatic, no admin is needed to make sure people are playing clean.

SiK has a Counter Strike: Source division.  There are tons of hackers right now on CS:S because right now the anti-cheat right now sucks.  It's created by VALVe, and it basically checks for hacks, but it doesn't do anything about it until weeks or even monthes later after the transgression.  They are realeasing a new version of VAC (VALVe Anti Cheat), but it isn't ready yet...  VAC2 is supposed to be like AntiTCC, it check for hacks and kicks/bans on sight, although, they is more of a chance of a false positive.  But, VAC2 will check for known and unknown cheats, right now, it only checks for known cheats.

Right now, we keep our server clean by heavily admining it.  It scares away a few people, but it also draws other people in.  Once people realize that their is usually always an admin either watching the server, or on the server, the hackers will usually stay away, knowing that they'll get caught.

Bottom line: If your not going to use Anti-Cheat, fine.  Just make sure that you always have an admin watching or playing on the server.

I probably shouldn't worry, but the "Performing Mid Game Check" while I'm fragged bums me out. I'm not that good at DM, and my strategy is to never go hunting until I have a minimum of 110 health, an offense weapon and an escape weapon, so I'm pressed for time to get these things. I'm probably just sweating something that doesn't matter, but ...

Levi and all, is it worth it to install UTAN on our other server, {O}? If so would you help me install it. Does it require lines in the startup script (which requires me to email a request to Recon to edit it)?

UTAN is now officially part of UT2K4 as of the last patch. If you've kept O up to date then you're using it already. If not, then just apply the latest patch and you'll be on the UTAN network. On another note, since O isn't a public server I wouldn't worry too much.
