sold it to a gal who wanted to learn to ride. Her hubby was gonna teach her. they thought a 500 would be a good size to learn with. Not wimpy, powerful enough to get out of spots, not too much to handle. Good call, I think.
That thing is big, uggggly and nearly indestructable. It had been sitting unused in a barn for 4 years. I had to replace only the master cylinder as far as anything major. New oil/filter, tiny spritz of WD-40 in each spark plug hole, new battery.
Fired on the first crank.

omg! i did too! my previously mentioned '78 CB400A had been sitting in someone's shed for a while, not really getting it's needed road time. the master cylinder was ungodly horrible. the piston was like a solid mass of dried brake fluid. yuck. and the calipers were in better shape, but not by much. they do work at least. nothing a little bit (okay, a lot) of brake cleaner couldn't fix. the caliper piston still needs a new seal tho.
other things it needs is new shocks front and back. rear brake. head gasket. i think i finally got the carb adjusted right after i rebuilt it. about time to change the oil again. few more odds n'ends.
so, yeah. it's a good tinker bike.
i love it.

Re: What's your ride?
I think that one is an 84.
Ours is an '87 that we got 5 years ago with less than 60,000 miles on it. We've more than doubled that. I don't have a handy picture of it though...
The xB gets about 32mpg and the Cruiser gets about 10gpm so they almost balance each other out. Almost.

That's a nice car. My mom has one, it's very comfortable. I myself have a 2000 Malibu and I like it a lot. It's safe, good handling, good power, gas mileage, and has been pretty reliable for me.

Most old Hondas have a problem with stuck front brakes (when they sit a while), and for some it's virtually impossible to find an mcyl rebuild kit.

Re: What's your ride?
I have a dark green 98 Mercury Mystique. It's been good to me, unless I'm bad to it. Then it punishes me. For instance: The rear shocks were perfect until I loaded it down with too many people and stuff for camping. Then the rear shock assembly died and cost me $1000 to fix.
Example 2: I forgot to turn off the lights a few times, and park it outside in the cold Canadian winter. The alternator died and cost me $400 to fix. I really do think that if I had taken better care of it, the car wouldn't have needed these repairs. Oh well.
My New Ride, due to arrive today or tomorrow, is a Trek 7500FX! I'm so excited about riding it to work instead of burning more fossil fuels to cover the paltry 4 km commute.
