Formac Burner Problems, Please Help A Person In Need

I bought a formac 24X firewire cd burner for my 400Mhz iMac running 10.2.3 a few months ago.  It works in nothing except for toast!  i have been trying to contact them but they keep pushing me in circles, and now it isnt even on formac.com anymore!!!  I am so mad, does anyone else have this burner and/or a solution?  Thankyou
sad to hopefully become  big_smile

What do you mean, "anything but toast"? What app are you trying to use? Some burners dont work with itunes/disc burner. Maybe the formac doesnt.

Does Apple System Profiler say the drive works with disc burner? Go apple menu---about this mac---click more info. I doubt it works with itunes. I think you're out of luck cry You can just use Toast to burn CD's, etc neutral

It says it isnt supported but, the company claims it works!  Other posts on the sight also said that.  I am emailing them again to ask if I can get a new burner, hopefully, that will fix it

Re: Formac Burner Problems, Please Help A Person In Need

I edited the device plugin for my unsupported Firewire Sony cd-burner in OS X 10.1.5, so that I could burn in the Finder and iTunes.  You may be able to do something similar.  When you use Toast, what is the device name of the burner?  I'm sure it is not made by Formac, but by one of the bigger companies.

Not for the faint of heart.
Also, I cannot guarantee that this will work in Jaguar.

Anyway, you will need HexEditor.  I think you'll need to be logged in as root to make this edit.  Navigate to this directory: /System/Library/Frameworks/DiscRecording.framework/Versions/A/Resources/DevicePlugIns/
Find the appropriate brand plugin, and drag a copy to your desktop.  Then open the original in HexEditor by dragging it onto the HexEditor icon.   Check the box that says "Allow Editing".  Scroll down towards the bottom where you will see model numbers.  Then you will need to replace one of the models with your burner's model number.  Quit HexEditor, logout and back in, and, if all went well, you should have full support for your drive.

Where does it say model number?

It doesn't.  You'll just have to recognize the models.

I highly recommend you only use Toast

You can drag the songs in iTunes to your Toast window as a shortcut too.
