I need to record my screen to VHS

I need to save a Flash animation to VHS. I'm doing this on an eMac.
I realize I could use the dazzle hollywood etc.... I'm actually looking for the dead cheapest way to output my screen eMac's screen to VCR. I don't have access to a firewire digital camera right now.  (I also don't want to point my analog video camera at my eMac's screen to accomplish this) Any suggestions on how this could be accomplished without breaking the bank would be greatly appreciated.

Re: I need to record my screen to VHS

I, too, have an eMac and a dazzle hollywood DV bridge. And I have a solution.
On macupdate.com, I've downloaded an app called MovieOut. This streams your movies out through firewire. QT works fine, MPG files stutter a little bit, and Flash sends out the video portion, although you can run a cable from your audio out to your VCR's audio in (stereo mini-jack to RCA). It's shareware and quits after 5 minutes into the session. You can either pause your VCR every 5 minutes or pay the $19.99.

Re: I need to record my screen to VHS

i swear there's something out there that rips flash to dv or quicktime, but I don't use flash so I've never messed with it.

I don't know about getting it to VHS, but you could probably make a VideoCD of it.

Doesn't FlashMX let you save as a QT Movie?  I imagine there is a way to then bring it into Final Cut Pro and then convert it to DV video and then output through a firewire bridge to VHS.

I've only messed with the trial version of FlashMX, so I never had a chance to try it out that way.

Yes, just File>Export Movie...  Choose QuickTime Video and you can export to any format QuickTime Supports, even DV...

Re: I need to record my screen to VHS

Let me explain a little better... I know  I can accomplish this with the use of some (somewhat expensive) equipment such as the dazzle hollywood DV bridge, but i'm in need of the cheapest alternative possible which makes the next quote very interesting to me ....

I don't know about getting it to VHS, but you could probably make a VideoCD of it.

This sounds like a good option, can I burn a VideoCD and have it play on a dvd player? If this is the case, then I might have my answer. Can somebody confirm the effectivness of  this solution? Thank you all for the replies, thanks IntegraG4.

Re: I need to record my screen to VHS

To make a video cd from flash export the movie to a QuickTime Video like I said before, after you click save another window will appear asking for the settings, for quality choose the Video compressor, or for better quality you can use the Component Video compressor... if you use DV you will loose some quallity and it will take longer to export because DV is compressed and considering you are just going to compress it again in the next step, why waste time?  Choose your Bit Depth and Sound Quallity, 24bit Color and 44khz 16bit Audio are fine...  Click OK.

Open the file you just exported with QuickTime Player choose File>Export choose Movie to Toast Video CD.  Click options, check the box that says "Launch Toast When Done."  Click OK.  Click Save.  Sit back and wait.

When its done toast will launch ready to go.  Click Burn, pop in a blank wait a while more and presto you're set.  cool

Re: I need to record my screen to VHS

Just an update to thank every one for your help.
I ended up getting an RCA DV camera and output the project that way.
I broke the bank after all... but recovered after getting paid for the video.
Thanks!
