crt or tft?
I already have an ag neovo 17"monitor tft,but i need a monitor slightly bigger and was looking at 20"tfts with 1600x1200 resolution but they are expensive,so i dont really want a 19" tft, because id be getting the same thing,so my point is that would it be better to go for a lacie electron blue crt 19" with 18"viewable and get 1600x1200 resolution for a year or 2 until the big tfts come down, thanks for any help, and by the way i use it for gaming and surfing the net primarily.

Try Circuit Board.

The storm starts when the drops start dropping. When the drops stop dropping, the storm starts stopping.

Re: crt or tft?
That AG Neovo porbably still fetches a good amount of money. You could probably sell it and purchase a larger Phillips or NEC.

All posts on the internet are postfixed by an invisible "IMHO". It's not in the html code, either.

Re: crt or tft?
It depends on what you are doing.
Nice CRTs offer a better picture for a fraction of the price. If you can spare the desktop space, and you don't need something much bigger then 22 inches, opt for a good CRT.
This article from Tom's Hardware is about 3 years old, but it is still quite relevant:
http://graphics.tomshardware.com/displa … cd-03.html
Now, don't get me wrong, if I had the cash, I'd probably buy a big ass Cinema Display. Good CRTs may have a better picture then good TFTs, but it's not like good TFTs look like garbage, and they make more sense if you want a massive workspace.
Ohh, and on a side note, you might want to think twice about buying a monitor from Lacie. Their monitors are usually Sony Trinitrons or NEC/Mitsubishi Diamondtrons in blue plastic. You can buy those directly from Sony or NEC/Mitsubishi .. you might be able to save a few bucks by eliminating the middle man.

TFT displays are so much easier on the eyes that I think it's worth it to get a TFT.

You don't need and electron blue if you want a nice CRT. Flatscreen 19" monitors from NEC can be had for $200 easy. Of course, my iMac has shown me that 40lb monitors are so pass

This is why I don't plan on buying another CRT. Even at higher refresh rates of 85hz or so, I still find my eyes hurt more at the end of the day.

Re: crt or tft?
you might wanna take the energy bill into consideration.
the 20" cinema display uses 65watt, the 19" electron 140watt..
(edit: hmm, I just calculated how much more it would cost to use the CRT, and it's just about 14euro/year.. that's at about 7.7cent/kWh)

Re: crt or tft?
I am using a mitsubishi 19" CRT (same exact tube that goes into a lacie electron blue) and I must say the heat generated is minimal, From the heat generated I would guess well under 50 watts. the figure on their spec sheet might reflect maximum current draw when starting or something.

To get a nice 19in CRT you're probably going to need to spend between $300 - $500. Sure, you can buy a $200 monitor... but you get what you pay for.
If you buy a cheep monitor you going to get poor geometry, bad color, etc.

Re: crt or tft?
Stupid question related to this. What's DVI vs VGA? I was looking at New Egg, trying to figure out which monitors were VGA and which were DVI

Webopedia wrote:
DVI: Short for Digital Visual Interface, a digital interface standard created by the Digital Display Working Group (DDWG) to convert analog signals into digital signals to accommodate both analog and digital monitors. Data is transmitted using the transition minimized differential signaling (TMDS) protocol, providing a digital signal from the PC's graphics subsystem to the display. The standard specifies a single plug and connector that encompass both the new digital and legacy VGA interfaces, as well as a digital-only plug connector. DVI handles bandwidths in excess of 160 MHz and thus supports UXGA and HDTV with a single set of links. Higher resolutions can be supported with a dual set of links.
VGA as it is today are monitors which use the older analog VGA, SVGA, XGA, SXGA, & UXGA video display standards (the differences between which are the resolution and color depth each is capable of supporting). They are all called usually VGA mostly due to the fact the standards are transmitted to the monitor via the same type of cable the original VGA standard used.

Re: crt or tft?
Yeah, sorry, I know this, I just don't know how to tell which is which.
says Input Connectors: 15 pin D-SUB
What's that mean? VGA cable? DVI Cable?
Sorry, I've not been sleeping enough lately, should be able to figure this out, but brain not functioning right. Gahh!
