bogus deal?
I'm currently thinking about moving into the mac world but am a little hesitant since they are significantly more expensive than equivalent pc's...I saw this deal but it seems too good to be true (seems you have to buy 3 to get the minimum order of $3499.99). Any thoughts?
Here's the link for the deal:

Re: bogus deal?
Seems TGTBT. Furthermore, I am always wary of something that says "15 inch PB" and then has a picture of a 12 incher (The 15 incher has speaker grilles on either side of the keyboard). I would reccomend a more reputible retailer.

Re: bogus deal?
Actually the requirement is that one spends at least $3500 total, not that a particular product totals this amount. I tested this by throwing in a 17" PB, a digital camera and a projector to get my total over that limit.
I also strongly suspect that this is too good to be true. A common technique is to buy grey-market products (no US warranty) and/or sell "accessories" which are actually standard parts ("You'll want a battery--that's 120 extra--and Mac OS X--that's normally 110 but I can get you a deal for 70..."). Even if this were legitimate and were just a special introductory price (I could find no reference to buyphotovideo.com in the online store rankings), I'm sure that Apple would clamp down on them pretty quick.

Re: bogus deal?
Hello, I attempted to purchase a mac from them as well. However, they assured me that their financial institution could only take bank2bank wire transfers at this time. I thought this was a little bogus being that even bank checks are more secure and reliable than bank2bank wire transfers.
Well, sure enough after deciphering broken english I recieved instructions on what account to transfer my money to. Well, guess where it was. . . .Latvia. Thats right, that little country you learn about in world history. Some bank there is the financial institution for BuyPhotovideo.com. In short, MY financial institution (M&T Bank) urged that I do not transfer the funds.
I told Buyphotovideo this, and they explained that they were truly sorry and are hoping to offer credit card purchases soon.
overall. . . I am still not 100% sure if they are legit, but damn it would be nice if they were!!

Re: bogus deal?
Well I talked with those guys extensively on the phone. I was going to pick up my laptop from their storefront since I do live relatively close, but they claimed they only have a warehouse in brooklyn and that they are based out of asia or something. I know the location they are talking about, but it is just a big building, which could be there warehouse.

Re: bogus deal?
haha, wow that does make them even more suspicious. I called them about two weeks ago, back when I was attempting to buy a laptop from them. To help everyone out, I recounted my entire experience with buyphotovideo.com, its long:
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I have been searching since January to get a good deal on a powerbook G4 15" but have only been dealing with frauds. I am posting this extraordinarily long thread so some conclusion can be reached on said company.
I was wondering if anyone had any dealings with BuyPhotoVideo.com and if they were succesful. Besides the fact that their name is conveniently similar to BHPhotoVideo.com their deals are the definition of 'to good to be true' Let me explain:
1) I located a Powerbook G4 17" on their website for $1,575.00(M9689LLA). That's right a 17" for less than 2K. Tell me where you can find a better deal.
2) So like any normal law abiding citizen I set out to purchase this laptop on their website since it was without a doubt the best deal I have ever seen. Once completing their very simple purchasing procedure I found it wierd that they did not ask for my credit card number. Instead they assured me that they would contact me about paying for the transaction. They are very prompt with customer service, but unfortunately they speak VERY broken english and probably couldn't understand anything I wrote them since I recieved the same emails from them constantly. Here is an example:
===============================================
Dear Sir/Madame,
The only payment method accepted at this time by our financial institution is bank2bank wiretransfer, if you are agree with that please provide us with the bank name where your wire transfer come from, our financial institution need this information to make the wire transfer process faster! After we get this information you will receive the wire transfer details and instructions!
Thank You

===============================================
Odd, don't you say? So, I sent them my bank name and a couple days went by. No wire transfer information. I kept emailing them to find out the instructions. I finally recieved this:
===============================================
Dear Sir/Madame,
We are very sorry but we have send you the wire transfer information

Re: bogus deal?
Hey everyone,
I'm new here and if you think that my english is weird...it's o.k..I'm french. I just want to let you know about ''axus electronics'' they are dealing(!) in plasma tv's as well. I saw their advertising and was very excited by their prices so I contact them for more info. They were very polite and prompt to answer untill I said that I wanted to go to N.Y to get to get it and visit their warehouse...well, less than an hour after I received and e-mail telling me that since the last time we spoke(the day before) the company had been moved in Romania but, that I was welcome to come and visit them. Sure!!!

Re: bogus deal?
I beleive that Latvia has similar anonymous banking mathods to Switzerland. There are lots of cell phone scams and stuff that put money into Latvian bank accounts.
There's also lots of stolen electronics that pass through here on their way to Romania.
I wouldn't trust this companyy at all.

Re: bogus deal?
The phone# (212) 475-2101 listed on buyphotovideo's website belongs to a different company.
American Printing & Enevlope CO
Po Box 1798, Long Island City, NY 11101
(212) 475-2101
And all of information stored at Verio.com when buyphotovideo.com registering its domain name is fake. Addresses and phone numbers do not exist. Previously, the registration address given at GA, but now everything is changed to New York.

Re: bogus deal?
These guys are definitely bogus. If you read through some of their product descriptions you can see that they lifted them from the B&H website and didn't even bother to remove references to B&H... Caveat emptor or suckers beware. Wish these prices were real though...

Re: bogus deal?
This site is a series of pictures for the storefronts of various digital camera stores in the NYC area. AXUS is not listed among them (but this might only be because the author of the page was unaware of this particular company.

Re: bogus deal?
Seems like there are a bunch of scammers getting into the powerbook rip-off technique...
I just checked out:
www.whyspendretail.com
they have a powerbook 17 with apple care for 1.889
They do accept credit cards through an online merchant account so I was thinking maybe this time coudl be worth a try... and if it goes wrong you can always ask a refund to your credit card issuer.
So I contacted them (using online chat through their website) to ask if they had the product in stock, and of course they did, when I asked if I could have the serial number the rep started getting a little bit fishy like: "I am only a rep and don't have it" and his/her english was really bad.. then he informed me that if I call the wherehouse they might give me the serial number but it's not sure because of course they don't give to everybody!
So guys who wants to play around a little bit with them? and see if it is another bogus deal or a true bargain??
cheers
S.

In defense to http://www.whyspendretail.com I purchased a computer from them 2 weeks ago and got it 4 days after purchase as promised on their website. I only paid $1950.00 for my Powerbook 1.67GHz 17" notebook! I got a wonderful deal from them. I would highly recommend to anyone. I even got a free iPod mini from them and free Apple Care.

Re: bogus deal?
You know what, I have no reason to lie. I saw your post and happen to be their customer? Have you bought something from them? If so then you may say something about them. But after reading your post you have no conclusion to draw from. As far as the serial number you wanted "according to your post" call apple and tell them you want the serial umber off a computer there without first purchasing it and watch what they tell you. Not everyone is out to get people. Mabye you should realise that. They did not do me wrong. They treated me very nicley. An I appreciate that. You dont get that alot. So if you don't like them because of a conclusion you have conjured up over a customer service rep you may or may have not talked to is a little childish. I will offer you this bit of information. Before you say something is not right about any company why don't you see what their all about. And yes they do take credit cards. They took mine and my transaction went very nicley!
If you do not like them then SHOP SOMEWHERE ELSE! And no I do not work for them. I'm only one of their many customers. I'll have some of them flood this area to show ppl just how retarded that post you created really is and how sad it is for you to draw a conclusion over a Customer Service Rep!

I AM STARTING HAVING FUN Mr James, I wonder why you care so much about them .. ??
here is what I found out, and you don't need to be a genius to find it out, i can't believe these people are so stupid!
I enquired about a product and I received an email from the customer support of www.whyspendretail.com and BY CHANCE I NOTICED A WIRED EMAIL ADRESS THAT HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH NAME OF THE SENDER what I mean is that if you work for a company your email address will usually be yourname@yourcompany.com or yourdepartement@yourcompany.com INSTEAD LOOK AT THE EMAIL OF THE PERSON WHO REPLIED TO MY ENQUIRE, I REPORT IT BELOW:
prymagen@whyspendretail.com
DON'T YOU GUYS NOTICE A SIMILARITY WITH THE USERNAME OF THE PERSON WHO IS SINGING AS JAMES AND WRITING NICE REVIEWS ABOUT THIS WEBSITE???
OR DO YOU STILL WANNA BELIEVE AN UNBELIEVABLE COINCIDENCE??? HAAHHAHAHAHAHHAHAHHA
CAN'T BELIEVE IT!!
cheers

That is a beautiful thing.
Oh I'm sorry prymagem2002, were you looking for your ass? Here it is on this platter from strobolus.
Maybe more "customers" will show up in your defense.
