Re: What is more important The life of a human or a dog
While the human may have the potential to contribute to society, if they realized their ways and changed, the probability of this happening (for the worst human, or even very bad) is very, very low, nearing 0. Essentially, the dog's "score" would have to be 0, since it can't consciously contribute to society, but the man's score would more than likely (I would estimate 99.9999999833% -- 1 in 6 billion) be <0.
Edit: A "normal" person's score would be >0 , in case you didn't understand my scoring system...
Your basic house mutt contributes plenty. Companionship, affection, playtime, scaring away intruders like the mailman (they excell at that: how many mail carriers stick around after the drop off the mail? Fido barks, the mailman leaves! Yeah for Fido, one more intruder dispached!) <-- (from the dog's point of view, anyway!)
Then there are dogs that visit hospitals, that's gotta tell you something: it's been found that patients who are practically comatose they're so lethargic perk up when a dog visits. It puts a smile on their face, they look forward to these visits. And these aren't 'specially trained dogs', they're just regular pooches who are good with people, basically any decent house pet.
Then you have your farm dog, guard dog, seeing-eye and other assistant dogs...
The dogs that contribute big time, like Moose on Frasier, and who earn an income are indeed few and far between. But any pet dog that's cared for is contributing to their family.
Dogs contribute plenty.
