Number of Sound Channels?

The version of UT2k4 I installed on my mac mini uses 8 sound channels.  On my friend's PC with whatever sound card, it gets 32 sound channels by default.  My question is, is mac UT2k4 limited to 8 channels?  I know there are problems with the sound system.  Also, I apparently have know way of knowing what the mac mini's sound capabilites are, is it entirely software?  Anything anybody knows about this would be appreciated.

Re: Number of Sound Channels?

The Mac version's may be kept reduced as the CPU handles the whole load in software. Not an issue with DP machines, but...

Most gaming PCs have soundcards, and the usual Audigy has a very low CPU utilization- just a few %.
