iMac G4 and G5 compatability...
G'day,
Right I have an iMac G4 800 mhz gizmo thingy, and am thinking about uprading to an iMac G5. But until I can afford one I was thinking of uprading my iMac G4's RAM, but would I then be able to transfer it to the G5 when I get it? I'm also wondering about maybe going for a powermac, has anyone got any advice on which one to go for?

Re: iMac G4 and G5 compatability...
RAM is not compatible between iMac 4 and iMac G5 or PowerMac G5.
iMac G5 for a compact desktop and general internet and iLife usage.
PowerMac for expansion, multiple monitors and serious data crunching.
I am very happy with a dual 867MHz G4 and two monitors. I have 3 HDs so far and 2 optical drives (all internal). The G5 PowerMacs have less room inside for that number of drives. But the G5 PM is way better than the G4 PM for the pro level work of audio video and photoshop type stuff.

What about gaming and such like? (Thanks for the quick reply BTW) I don't tend to play high end games (mostly Ghost Recon and maybe Rainbow Six if I ever get round to it), so would an iMac G5 with extra RAM be ok for that?

I am not a gamer. Why not ask in the Games forum here?
I think that the Graphics card is very important and since the iMac has integrated graphics and no AGP or PCI slots, the iMac is not so good for games.
